Bummer. The absolute best concert I ever went to was Genesis back in 87 at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Dang good show. The highlight, IMO, was when he and Chester started banging on their drums which were set up side by side, mirror imaged from one another.

When I was a teenager, I was the biggest Vicehead and Genesis fan in the world. When I was 15 years old, we moved to Deerfield Beach, Florida. Long story short, one afternoon we're driving down A1A and we notice a commition up ahead. As we get a little closer, we notice some trailers and other vehicles parked along the Intercoastal... suddenly, this little bald dude walks right in front of our car. It was Collins, shooting an episode of Vice ("Phil the Shill") at a beach house there in Deerfield. I got to meet the two stars of my favorite show and the lead singer of my favorite band. They were all incredibly cool. I was the happiest kid in the world.

‘Miami Vice’ was great for the ‘80s. I loved that show. The show made great use of the popular music of the day. One of the best episodes was the one with Ted Nugent as a really, really bad killer. The song used at the end of that episode was ‘Cry’ by Godley and Creme (10cc). Perfect.

Another good episode and song use was ‘Long Long Way to Go’ by Phil Collins.

Back in his time we went to concerts because we enjoyed the music and the visual theatrics as in MTV and the like was not part of it. Most older ones like me find it annoying.

PS. Phil looking like Dave Ramsey a bit in the photo.

I though for sure that was going to be “Heartbeat”.

He was a huge ego, but regarding my story above, of all the guys we met on the set that day, PMT was actually the nicest. He spent about 20 minutes with us on the side of the road just talking about the show. He was in awe of the way people were responding to Vice at the time.

“Definitely Miami” was the Nugent episode.

“Sons and Lovers” was the ep that used “Long, Long Way to Go”. Collins and Sting did a great version of that song at Live Aid in London.

Just started to listen to Firth of Fifth upon reading of your MP3 loss...must be several decades since I’ve listened...it is still great and “the sheep still remain inside their pen.”

I have to disagree with you on ‘Supper’s Ready’. The original Foxtrot version was, IMO, untoppable.

There must have been some kind of misunderstanding. It must have been some kind of mistake.

Rock n Roll never forgets...

Phil will be back...

He talks the talk, but, he will be back...

No one quits show biz... they just don’t...

I’ll be back in it myself, soon enough... blind, deaf, and crippled... I will probably be there...

Its a tug on the heart kinda thing...Thats the truth...

I won’t say how, but nobody walks away from life... especially when it brings joy and money...

Sad to confess ignorance of Phil Collin’s music talent over all these years. His overwhelming talent videos on these video links astounds me. Especially “Paradise”. Thanks everybody for all these wonderful tributes to his genius.

It is time to get out. Loved his comment about MTV. So true. Here’s some OLD Genesis from ‘73. One of my favorites from the great album, Selling England by the Pound: Dancing with the Moonlit Knight.
