I agree with the writer, but don't care enough to write that much about it. A lot of phrases are fads, and a lot of times people put LOL at the end of their own comments when what they wrote wouldn't even qualify for a FIMH (found it mildly humorous.)
On FR, it seems to me the following have past their use by date, and are no longer remotely funny:
Stunned. Beeber. Hugh. The picture of Claude Raines with "I'm shocked." The pictures of Captain Obvious. A moose once bit my sister.
These are becoming like watching a sitcom rerun and wondering how in the world the audience could break into wild cheers because someone said, "Aaay!" or "Whachoo tawkin bout Willis?" or "God'll get you for that." or "You bet your sweet Bippy." They're done. Find something new.

I have a friend who thought the same thing...she had to go on FB to apologize to everyone after she found out that LOL actually meant ‘laugh out loud’. She had been sending notes to friends and family along the lines of “Sorry to hear that your grandma is in the hospital. LOL” and “I just heard that your dog was hit by a car and died. LOL” :-0
