Having lost the battle over collective bargaining rights in the capital, the Wisconsin unionistas are now taking their fight to local businesses.
Seven union heads have sent the below letter to Marshall & Ilsley Corporation, a financial services firm. In the letter, the union members give the president of the company an ultimatum: publicly denounce Gov. Scott Walkers anti-collective bargaining law, or face union boycott.
March 10, 2011 Mr. Tom Ellis, President Marshall & Ilsley Corporation 770 N. Water Street Milwaukee, WI 53202 SENT VIA FASCIMILE AND REGULAR MAILDear Mr. Ellis:
As you undoubtedly know, Governor Walker recently proposed a budget adjustment bill to eviscerate public employees right to collectively bargain in Wisconsin
As you also know, Scott Walker did not campaign on this issue when he ran for office. If he had, we are confident that you would not be listed among his largest contributors. As such, we are contacting you now to request your support.
The undersigned groups would like your company to publicly oppose Governor Walkers efforts to virtually eliminate collective bargaining for public employees in Wisconsin. While we appreciate that you may need some time to consider this request, we ask for your response by March 17. In the event that you do not respond to this request by that date, we will assume that you stand with Governor Walker and against the teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters and other dedicated public employees who serve our communities.
In the event that you cannot support this effort to save collective bargaining, please be advised that the undersigned will publicly and formally boycott the goods and services provided by your company. However, if you join us, we will do everything in our power to publicly celebrate your partnership in the fight to preserve the right of public employees to be heard at the bargaining table.
Wisconsins public employee unions serve to protect and promote equality and fairness in the workplace. We hope you will stand with us and publicly share that ideal.
In the event you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact the Director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, Jim Palmer, at 608.273.3840.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
James L. Palmer, Executive Director Wisconsin Professional Police Association Mahlon Mitchell,President Professional Professional Fire Fighters Jim Conway, President International Association of Fire Fighters Local 311 John Matthews, Execuctive Director Madison Teachers, Inc. Keith Patt, Executive Director Green Bay Education Association Bob Richardson, President Dane County Deputy Sheriffs Association Dan Frei, Prersident Madison Professional Police Officers Association
The primary signatory of the letter is James L. Palmer, the executive director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association:
The unions have also taken aim at a chief financial backer of Gov. Walker, M&I bank.
From the Nation:
M&I Bank is the largest bank in Wisconsin, and was the recipient of $1.7 billion in TARP bailout money from the federal government. The bundled contributions from M&I executives were Walkers second largest source of campaign funds. According to records provided by the Sunlight Foundation, executives at M&I Bank gave $46,308 to Walkers campaign. And now, a group of local unions in Wisconsin have threatened to pull their money from M&I Bank unless it denounces Scott Walkers attack on workers rights.
I’ve always said unions are nothing more than extortionists. If I were these companies, I’d tell the police union and all the others to go eff themselves.
Bullies, thugs, pigs,morons, Neanderthals...
I understand the political decision to exempt the police and fire professions from the termination of collective bargaining for benefits, but it’s a hard distinction to justify economically, legally or otherwise. You see from this letter how little the favor bought Walker. You could also see in the way the Police let the demonstrators have their way at the Capitol that Walker wasn’t getting much there either.
Nonetheless, Walker’s a winner, as is the state.
These boycotts won’t work. Since this is a local issue why not all petition at your city halls etc to reduce the police & fire by 20%. Turn it back on them. See how they react to these cuts.
So much for the Police, Firemen, and the teachers being professionals. I would expect people of intelligence to be civil and law abiding not practicing extortion.
The ugly truth becomes exposed...
Now let me see, these unions all hate Wal-Mart because it supposedly hurts local businesses, and yet here they are threatening to hurt local businesses. The leftists sure have hypocrisy down to a science.
Time to RICO this organized crime gang and a extortion charge as well.
That’s exactly how Je$$e Jack$on and Al $harpton operate.
In the event that you cannot support this effort to save collective bargaining, please be advised that the undersigned will publicly and formally boycott the goods and services provided by your company. However, if you join us, we will do everything in our power to publicly celebrate your partnership in the fight to preserve the right of public employees to be heard at the bargaining table.”
Extortion. By thugs. Go public with this, full page ads in local papers, radio spots and billboards. Make sure people what thugs look like up close..
I don't think that one flies.
Send him one from the Tea Party telling him that if he goes along with the Unions, he will be boycotted by the Tea Party, and if he stands up against the Unions, the Tea Party will do everything to try and start a “buycott”.
These tactics are straight out of Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”, and I have no doubt that they are being instigated by the community agitator in chief.
Remember the head of the afl-cio Trumka talks to Obama’s white house every day.
Thing is, these tactics are politically neutral - they work regardless of whose side you’re on. So we need to use them against their interests - boycott companies that support them and help companies that are on are side or are threatened by the thugs. Two can play this game, and the game is won by the side that’s most motivated.
Right now they are. We think because we won the election there and the pubbies are holding strong that we have the upper hand. But I wouldn’t dismiss the other side’s power - those tactics can wear out an opponent. So Walker and Co. need all the support we can give them, including mobilizing in the streets.
The real war is between the unions and the taxpayers.

A little more information regarding M&I Bank. $600,000.00 has been withdrawn from M&I Bank $192,000.00 just by the firefighter Union (who was exempt from collective bargaining restrictions). The M&I Capitol Square Branch in Madison Wisconsin was shut to the public. Democratic Underground ( I just looked at what they are trying to pull) has staged a photo with handcuffs applied to the door (cheap shot).
On December 17, 2010, Bank of Montreal (BMO) agreed to purchase Marshall & Illsley in an all stock transaction valued at 4.1 Billion USD. It is expected Marshall and Illsley will be combined with BMOs Harris Bank subsidiary based in Chicago, Illinois.
Looks like the Democratic Activists have been ordered by Barack Obama to run on Banks forcing others to run on the bank thus causing a run on banks Panic like depression 1929. Just be warned the idiot (WH) in charge has his fingerprints all over this.
