DNR violations listed in new 60-page document (read here) [WI]

Did you know that possession of an elk with broken or removed antlers could cost you a fine of nearly $1,200 in Wisconsin?

Or that hunting elk during the off-season subjects you to paying a deposit of almost $2,200?

Of course, good luck finding an elk in Wisconsin. Once abundant in numbers, there are but a few in the state – mostly in the Clam Lake area – according to the state Department of Natural Resources, which says that historically they once roamed in great numbers but were wiped out at the turn of the century by over-hunting.

No matter. The elk fines – plus hundreds of other DNR no-no’s covering a wide array of everything from hunting and fishing violations to illegal ginseng growing are listed in the state’s Wisconsin Revised Uniform Deposit and Bail Schedule for Conservation, Environmental Protection, Boating, Snowmobile, ATV and Captive Wildlife Violations for 2011. The newly revised 60-page document can be viewed HERE

“... illegal ginseng growing ...”

Uh?

I can hear the boots marching in the distance now.
The marching boots of thousands of bureaucrats making criminals out of all of us.

If you’d like to be on or off this Upper Midwest/outdoors/rural list please FR mail me. And ping me is you see articles of interest.

The 60 pages covers boating, ATV violations. There were a few here I'd never heard of.

29.347(3)(b) Fail to obtain written authorization to retain possession of velvet antlers or a spotted deer hide.---Nothing about who to get permission from

29.405(1)(b) Release or return dead or live rough fish taken with a bow & arrow, back into state waters. (F-78)(0-$2,152.50)---LIVE fish taken by bow, doubt there's many of those

29.607(3) Harvesting wild rice without a license(L-6)(0-$343.50)

Actually most of them make sense

I guess. I’ve done this, accidently, I guess on the rare occasions I see the stuff I shouldn’t canoe anywhere near it. Wonder what the permit costs?

Only if the damage exceeds $10m. At $7million what’s that, 175 teachers at $40,000 for a year, who needs them.

If the economy completely collapses, people are going to be out there shooting anything that moves for food. They will be burning these regs for warmth.

There is no doubt about that. They will be burning the regs to start the fire to cook the elk!

I still am amazed about “illegal ginseng”. Truly Amazed!

LIVE fish taken by bow, doubt there's many of those

When you find yourself exclaiming "We're going to need a bigger bow!",
you might want to rethink that statement.

no, people grow it all over...you probably need to pay protection money to the DNR (Damn Near Russia) in order to legally grow it...
