Mossbergs are fine, but bottom line, it’s alloy receiver versus steel receiver. For that reason, I prefer the Remington.

The Mossberg 500 series is the only pump shotgun qualified to a Mil-Spec — and that means it is one good shotgun. For chamber length, check the barrel markings. As for magnum load, even the 2-3/4 inch will beat you up. The longer the shell, the bigger the recoil THUMP. What’s the point with magnums? With a cylinder bore gun, you don't get a lot of range increase even with magnums.
Mossberg also makes the Maverick 88 Security 6-shot and 8-shot that is a plainer version of the 500. The main difference between the 500 and 88 is the safety — the 500 is on the back of the receiver and the 88 is in front of the trigger guard.

I like the placement of the safety on the Mossberg too but there is nothing wrong with the Remington either.
I am sure they have fixed it by now but at one time the plastic safety on the Mossberg was just about guaranteed to break. It was such a common event that our local gun store kept a large number of replacements in stock.
I like the Mossberg and agree it is good value for the money but I suspect anyone holding each at the same time would have no doubt the 870 was much sturdier.

I’ve got a Mossberg 500 Bantam, in 20 gauge. 22” barrel, so it’s got a tiny bit more maneuverability in tight spaces than the 24” barrelled guns. I have never had a single problem with it, and it was $200.00 at Walmart. Hard to beat.

I guarantee a vote for Palin if she promises to bring back lead shot. The science behind the lead ban is complete hosshiite. And I can prove it doesn’t lower academic achievement among minority students.

The Mossberg shotgun is comparable to the Remington 870 Express Riot Gun. As long as it does not have the pistol grip as it is only good to shoot off your own foot. The Mossberg also has a ambidextrious safety on the top of the tang which works for lefties and righties.

There is nothing at all wrong with pistol grip stocks on pump shotguns. I have arthritis in my hands and the pistol grip makes my Winchester 1200 much easier to handle.
I wonder if you are thinking of those with only a pistol grip and no stock. I tried shooting one of those and once was enough. It kicked like a mule, much worse than a .44mag revolver.

I was referring to a pistol grip only; no stock. A pistol grip with a stock is fine.

Well they look wicked and I guess I would use one if it was all I had but yes, removing the stock makes it far less useful.

The Mossberg 500 is a reliable, suitable, and thoroughly credible shotgun.
Largest chamber size that's practical is 3".
I'm sure that a whole bunch of Mossberg 500s are still floating around the USMC Fleet Marine Force and in Navy installations. You might want to pick up the Mossberg ventilated barrel shroud for it.

The longer the shell, the bigger the recoil THUMP. Whats the point with magnums? Thanks for the info....I was just curious as to what the shotgun would fire, due diligence if you will.

REALLY? The drum, or the shotgun?!?!?!
I'm drawing on what my brother told me...he's wanted one for quite some time, so for sure the actual gun; don't know about the drum.

I went over to the Saiga12 Forums, and didn’t see any mention of this. I’m thinking it isn’t true.
