SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- Illinois officials said their "Special Plate Inhibit List," a list of banned license plates letter and number combinations, has grown to 4,758.
Candace Wanzo, head of the specialty plate department in Springfield, said she and her staff use Web sites including Google, Google Translate and urbandictionary.com to decipher the hidden messages in vanity plates requested by motorists, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.
She said the list grows by about 20 entries each week, and includes such combinations as BRKNWND, IPOOP, BYECOP, DOGLIPS, BOOGR, SKINYDP, COMMODE and numerous plates containing text message shorthand for profane phrases.
"Some of them just make me shake my head," Wanzo said. "I can't believe individuals would actually pick some of these plates."
"I think some of the people have been out all night drinking and then sit down at the computer," she said.
Wanzo? Sounds like a plate that should be banned.....
So “DOGLIPS” is not good?....
Dang...Thats disappointing
Vanity Plates are just there to give you the illusion of choice.
I think if the governments were to be honest they would not issue them and issue the numbers randomly out to people.
LOL
I remember in the 60s when Mich issued new plates each year, they rotated between “Water Wonderland” and “Winter Wonderland” for their slogan.
We used to call it the “Water Winter Welfare Wonderland”
I was in the MD DMV a few years back and I overheard a plumber arguing with the clerk over the plates for his work van. He was denied his request for DRAIN1.
What’s so bad about doglips?
A guy in Florida had an ATHEIST plate for years that resulted in much vandalism to his car. Then the state decided it was objectionable and yanked it, but Christian plates are still allowed.
I just re-registered my F-350. Because of the size, not only do I not have to get emissions inspection, but I don’t have to display the plate either. I had wondered why I’ve seen others with “John Deere” or other such plates before and no other plate (have to register it, but not display the plate).
Maybe I’ll have a plate made with “FUBO” or something similar, and go run red light cameras.
But any divorced guy can understand this:
I wondered the same thing. *shrugs*
Doglips is not good?
Darn! I guess “Bongo Butt” would not pass then.....
LOL! I’d have never put that on my car. :)
