A bipartisan group of House lawmakers is drafting a bill that would require Internet service companies to maintain the computer identification records of users for the FBI to work with in investigating child-pornography suspects.
Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) has thrown her support behind the measure, which, with its sponsor, Republican House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (Texas), could prove to be one of the rare pieces of legislation that manages to find bipartisan support in an increasingly divided House.
The bill, which Smith is planning to introduce in the next several weeks, would require Internet service providers (ISPs) to maintain records of individual users’ Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for a mandatory period of time, possibly up to two years.
While children’s-rights groups are championing the measure, civil-liberty advocates say it’s a serious government intrusion on the privacy rights of Internet users, and could lead to a significant decline in online innovation and overall usage.

I think those that have been convicted be locked up for life. As a former probation officer I had software that I used to scan offenders computers for illegal images.

The Obama administration is essentially trying to pass a law forcing ISP's to keep records of computer users surfing for two years. If that was all this story said, everybody would be up in arms over government intrusion and loss of liberty. But, they put in the old "For the Chiiillldrenn..." Trojan horse and everybody include the conservative Republicans in congress are ready to jump on board, after all who wants to be labeled pro-pedophile...

You don't believe they're only going to use the information for legitimate law-enforcement purposes, do you?
They will use it, with Google's help, to create detailed dossiers of every aspect of the lives of every single American.
That way they will know what your political bent is, and it will make it easy to round up the correct people for the reeducation camps when the time comes.
Rest assured that this has absolutely nothing to do with stopping online child porn and they won’t even try to do it. They would close down sites like FR on the grounds that political opponents are guilty of everything by default...and would openly admit it.
If they cared about stopping child porn, they wouldn’t be releasing pedophiles from prison and teaching sex techniques to preteens. They need the little ones “progressive” and “sex positive” after all.
