People have been scrambling for the new browser. After just over 24 hours, Firefox 4 has already been downloaded more than 9 million times. And with good reason. It's the most popular alternative to Internet Explorer, and it's the browser of choice for those who want a customizable web experience. The Ghostery add on was enough for me to bail on Explorer a couple years ago. Firefox works great and does exactly what I want.
I like it-so far. Was using the RC when final release came out. Sure there will be a couple updates in a week or 3, but so far, seems a bit more stable/videos load smoother,etc.
Firefox is not without it’s problems (memory hog), but it is my preferred browser of choice. Highly customizable and very secure.
Opera is also good.
There is NO good reason to use IE, unless one desires a virus.

I pretty much agree with your post, except I have no experience with Opera.
I do have an annoying redirect virus in firefox. The part that is most annoying is that when I get hits in google instead of just clicking on the hyperlink, I have to copy the hyperlink and paste it in the address, otherwise it redirects - even though I’ve turned on the “ask me to verify redirect”.
It’s gotta be costing Google money since they are not getting credit for a “click through”.

IE is just a web browser, not an anti-virus app. I “prefer” using FF for compatibility. HOWEVER, my IP blocker and anonymizer works better in IE than FF.
That is highly dependent on OS and plugins/add-ons.
I am running FF 4.0 on my antique 2001 laptop with only 192 MB memory and often have 50 MB left over! That is a crippled Pentium II also.
I have just about given up on the Firefox 3.5-3.6 series...liked earlier versions tho. Current 3.x version has massive memory problems (leaks mostly)...hoping it is improved in v.4...I have a few plug-ins so unfortunately I cannot switch to 4 yet. Otherwise it is going to be Chrome for me...just don’t like Chrome’s bookmark layout.
Srware Iron is worth a look for the Windows environment as is Chromium for Linux. Lots of extensions available. The lack of a print preview feature remains a problem, however.
Right, but FF can be customized with Ad Block and No Script. Also, most viruses are geared towards IE.
There are many other things necessary to maintain good computer health, but safe browsing is very important.
I tried one of the Beta versions and didn’t care much for it. I’m running the latest release, and I think it will do fine, now.

I keep getting plug-in errors with my most current version. Anyone have any suggestions on this—was thinking of going to Chrome, but if I can figure out the issues, will go with Firefox 4...perhaps the issues will be solved with the new version?
I’m using the release version of IE9. Works very well. Much faster than IE8, and I like the new features after getting used to them.
I use Symantec Endpoint Protection (corporate version), ZoneAlarm free, and Spybot Search & Destroy for malware protection.
And I have used AdMuncher since it first came out to block almost all internet ads and popups. Worth every penny. One of the best shareware products I know. I never see any ads (shhhh!).
A bit faster, seems quite stable (not that I’ve had stability issues with FF in several years), and with the right addons I’ve been able to keep the appearance changes I wanted and effectively ditch the ones that annoyed me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Fox....but I always wind up holding off on every upgrade 3-4 months to let all my favorite add-ons catch up. Maybe if FF4 catches on real fast it won’t take so long.
I’m using IE8 and have no complaints.
Reading through some of the ‘new’ things in that blog you linked to, I notice that FF4 omitted several older features.
That always amazes and aggravates me when a new/upgrade of any program removes features. More times than not, some of those features are the reason I use that particular program.
That’s certainly the number one reason. Others include:

Thanks for the ghostery tip. I never heard of it until your mention. I’m now running the safari version.
If you use the little purple pop-up in the right top corner, you will be shocked at how many entities are trying to track you as you hit different web pages.

I also like the add-on BetterPrivacy. I can get rid of flash cookies with it that I can’t get rid of when using any regular way of clearing cookies. Those can store a ton of information.

I just upgraded and it installed what you have....weird.
Belay that last post. I searched again and it then upgraded to 4.0...apparently when you upgrade it doesn’t install the latest version.
