False: “Jesus never used violence; neither did he call his disciples to use it.” Jesus used violence in the Temple against the money changers, and he told his displines to sell their cloaks and to buy swords (to protect themselves).
No one should ever apologize for the Crusades (including the Pope). They were defensive, and the Crusaders saved the West. Focusing on a few alleged or actual misdeeds is deceitful. Being apologetic about them is intellectual and moral cowardice.

I agree with you. Once I checked into it, I learned that the Crusades were a RESPONSE or a defensive move. That is not what is taught in colleges today.
