From the comments;

I was just wondering, it sounds like he says, “Play it Mr. Dunn.” on that first solo. Was that the steel guitar? griffis180 2 years ago 2

Yes. That’s Bob Dunn the superb steel guitar player. After Milton Brown died Dunn went on to join Cliff Bruner and his Texas Wanderers. He made some recordings with his own band - Bob Dunn’s Vagabonds (basically The Texas Wanderers). He’s said to be the the first person to record with an electrically amplified instrument.

I beleive Bob Dunn was the very first ‘recorded’ electric guitarist. i have read that he adapted his Martin with a hawaian guitar pickup system and amplified it!

[And that ‘Yowellza’ isn’t Axel Rose]

One more comment here about the ampliphied steel guitar;

Milton Brown and the Musical Brownies “Taking Off”

Cary Ginell, in his fine book MILTON BROWN AND THE FOUNDING OF WESTERN SWING, states on good authority that Dunn was the first guy to record a electrically amplified (admittedly lap steel) guitar using a technique that he was shown by some nameless black NY musician whose name is lost to history (p. 109).

it's a tar pit ..Rock and Roll came from a lot of sources

Levon Helm: That's kind of the middle of the country right there. So bluegrass, or country music, if it comes down to that area and mixes there with rhythm, and if it dances, then you've got a combination of all these different types of music -- country, bluegrass, blues music.

Robbie Robertson: The melting pot.

Martin Scorcese: What's it called then?

Levon Helm (smiling): Rock and Roll.

At :58 sec:

Muddy: “Pinetop said it.....you know the blues got soul. Yeah the blues had a baby, and they named it Rock and Roll.”

RIP Pinetop Perkins, 1913 - 2011 (a few days ago)
