I have received notification of email breaches from Kroger, Best Buy and Home Depot so far. They seem legit as they are not asking for any info, just notifying me of probable phishing scams based on these breaches. so how many credit cards got info stolen recently?

Well, I guess I ought to hearing from Walgeens soon , or a spammer pretending to be them.

sounds like they all used the same email service.

I was told by ROBERT HALF (a place I’ve sent my resume to) that my email was compromised...

It seemed to be in relation to another company they use - can’t remember the name, sorry.

Best Buy email said a company called “Epsilon” was use for email services. I assume a lot of big companies used this service.

I heard a report tonight that the e-blaster company, Epsilon, sends out billions of emails. They have an extremely large database because so many companies hired them to do their email advertising.

Spam is a four-letter word!

Funny thing: A couple of months ago I was contacted by Comcast and asked to confirm my email addresses. (I have one for family stuff, one for business stuff and another just for my personal stuff.) I spoke to a Comcast rep on the phone to verify the authenticity of the request and did an online interactive session with one of their reps.

They had some email addresses of mine going back 5-6 years (moved to another state) and I had to clear those out. Since I went through all of this with Comcast, I now receive SPAM at all three email addresses, whereas before I was receiving NONE. Grrrrr!

I know one thing, whoever stole this has a LOT MORE than just names and E-Mails. We’re being suckered.

After all, what good is that info? A name means very little in this country, when there are between 10 and 100,000 people out there with the SAME NAME. Obviously, there must be more to it.

Very nice to hear from you, Mr. Madoff,

I would be happy to help you out with your endeavor. You know how I hate the way Africans have always been treated by us white slave-owners. My bank account number is 555-1212, and the routing number is 1313.

Again, please forgive me for our transgressions, and use the the above account number to deposit your US2,000,000 dollars.

Sincerely,
BobL

I have been getting these Fed-X and UPS notifications and I opened on as I do have somethings ordered and got a thing I still do not know what it was. Kept saying I needed to buy Windows XP security and it would not go away when asked and would not let me open Windows. I restored my computer to an earlier date and can now get on line but I wonder what is going on inside my computer. Anyone know?

That was a virus. I have gotten a couple of the UPS ones. It said download a zip file, which UPS does not use.

Run yer virus program, though hopefuly the restore took care of it.

I had a fraudulent charge show up on my debit card last week, and I had to cancel the card and request a new one. Someone hit it for $2.96, and if that had stood unchallenged, they would have come back and hit me for $296.00 next time.

These days you just don’t know who has had their data compromised and inadvertently released your data...

Kroger. Epsilon services.

This isn't forgiveable. I do web security (among other things) for a living. They need to be better than this.

Trojan, virus, or rootkit. All are very very bad. Rootkits are the worst to get rid of. Restoring to a previous setpoint is no guarentee of ridding yourself of the problem(s).

This is one of the reasons I have an e-mail address used exclusively for on-line purchases. Since I own the domain, if it gets too inundated with garbage, I’ll delete it and make another. But the e-mail addy isn’t the real problem, it’s all the other data associated with it.

Yep. Epsilon. Had this arrive this morning from Hilton Honors:

Dear Customer:

We were notified by our database marketing vendor, Epsilon, that we are among a group of companies affected by a data breach. How will this affect you? The company was advised by Epsilon that the files accessed did not include any customer financial information, and Epsilon has stressed that the only information accessed was names and e-mail addresses. The most likely impact, if any, would be receipt of unwanted e-mails....

I just got this notice via e-mail tonight...

Walgreens
http://email.walgreens.com/114362f76layfousublkzceqaaaaabnfulrtci46vouyaaaaa

Dear Valued Customer,

On March 30th, we were informed by Epsilon, a company we use
to send emails to our customers, that files containing the
email addresses of some Walgreens customers were accessed
without authorization.

We have been assured by Epsilon that the only information
that was obtained was your email address. No other
personally identifiable information was at risk because
such data is not contained in Epsilon’s email system.

For your security, we encourage you to be aware of common
email scams that ask for personal or sensitive information.
Walgreens will not send you emails asking for your credit
card number, social security number or other personally
identifiable information. If ever asked for this
information, you can be confident it is not from Walgreens.

We regret this has taken place and any inconvenience this
may have caused you. If you have any questions regarding
this issue, please contact us at 1-855-814-0010. We take
your privacy very seriously, and we will continue to work
diligently to protect your personal information.

Sincerely,

Walgreens Customer Service Team
