The Federal Bureau of Investigation has this last week opened what it calls "the vault", a collection of thousands of documents and memos that have been unclassified.
One of those memos confirms the crash at Roswell.
It is a PDF file, and the FBI server is running slow, so I will transpose part of it here:

The following information was furnished to SA
An investigator for the Air Force stated that three so-called flying saucers hed been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only 3 feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed flyers and test pilots.
According to Mr. (redacted), informant, the saucers were found in New Mexico due to the fact that the Government has a very high powered radar set-up in that area and it is believed the radar interferes with the controling mechanism of the saucers.
No further evaluation was attempted by SA (redacted) concerning the above.

Weather balloons were really big then.
All it confirms is that an informant told them that a saucers had crashed and been recovered. That was a story in newspapers of the day.
It doesn’t confirm that it actually happened.

This is what the USAF said. It could very well be a propaganda war. If aliens are real, then they would most likely have bases on Mars, or Gaynemede or Calisto as these offer the most stable of conditions and could hold underground cities or structures.
This means 64 years from now (2075), the FBI will release Barry’s long form. THEN, we’ll all have standing.

These files are mere crumbs for us peons, although the pop culture and celebrity files are a hoot. FBI paranoia didn’t end with Hoover’s death. I mean, they have files on KISS and John Denver for crying out loud.

OK, finally downloaded, but from reading it, this doesn’t ‘confirm’ Roswell. It is simply a report of what one person (name redacted) claims to have heard happened. It isn’t a first person report. A lot of stories were going around, read the archives of papers then. At that, based on the final sentence in this, ‘no further evaluation requested’ it seemed they didn’t take this story seriously. Just an interview with another crank.
Why not the moon? We know now that it has water.

That description conforms to what I saw in 1954 at lunch in high school.
Two F-104s kept coming at the saucer from opposite directions and just before they got to it it would shoot up/sideways/or down at I would guess 5 times the speed of the jets.
I watched this for over 10 minutes until the lunch bell rang and I had to return to class.
No one ever made anything of it or reported it as far as I know.
I never thought to say anything about it and just consifered it very interesting to watch.
Still don’t think it is that big a deal and probably wouldn’t say or report it today if I saw it again!
