Guy Ronald McDowell walked out of a hospital and into a "suicide by officers" scenario that left him dead, a family friend said Friday.
Attorney and family friend Eddie Daniel said McDowell, killed by police on Interstate 275 after he pointed what turned out to be a pellet gun at officers, had been released from an area hospital shortly before the Thursday night shooting that Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch termed a "suicide by officers" plot.

Yes, but that places the responsibility on the cop. I’m not sure that’s appropriate here.
This guy must be white. That scenario played out in Lansing years ago and cries of “racism” were heard practically before the body hit the ground.

I disagree, it makes it sound like the cops had no say in the matter, which is definitley the case. If you point a gun or reasonable facsimile thereof at any armed person you are likely to come down dead. I am hardly the greatest supporter of LEOs on FR but this sounds like the cops had no choice.

Committing suicide, trying to be funny, or just plain stupid, it doesn’t matter. Same outcome.

the pellet gun was not a very lethal weapon.
I can't even imagine the nightmares they are having
i generally dis-like some in the law enforcement circles.
but the cop did the right thing. id have blown him 2 pieces. that pellet gun is is very life like, maybe he thought the cop would freeze?. maybe he is just a dummy.
