moi

Just wondering how all the FReepers in the tornado areas are doing?

It's been a deadly couple of days across the South - hope everyone made it thru okay.

Doing OK here N. of Raleigh. There's debris everywhere, and I gotta get a powerwasher, and there's a few shingles and siding panels gone off some of my neighbors' houses, but we're getting back to OK fast. Progress Energy had the power on last night, bless them. I saw them putting up a new high-voltage tower on my way to church this morning.

God bless all the NC FReepers!

My son is at NC State in Raleigh (my wife and I are UNC grads, but that’s another story). He was at his girlfriend’s apartment and they had to go to the laundry room. No damage to her place, and his dorm was undamaged as well. His twin sister is at Appalachian State and did fine. We have some friends who lost a home in Sanford. A Lowes hardware about a half mile from our former Sanford home was leveled. (We listen outside of Winston-Salem now.) Still, lots of devastation in our state.

We had gone to Boone on Friday for the open house at Appalachian State (I have a high school junior). It started torrentially raining Friday night, all night and was very, very windy. Same thing on Saturday morning except it was like a hurricane. They had flash flooding in the area. By the time we were finished touring the campus and ready to head back home, it was blue sky and dry roads but very, very windy still. We followed the storm east until just west of Derm and Chapel Hell where we drove into rain. We got home about 45 min after the tornadoes went through Raleigh. There was no damage in my area (NW Wake County) but lots of tree debris and yellow insulation everywhere. Still wonder where all that insulation came from. I’m about 5-7 miles from NCSU, west of I-40.

We heard about this on our local news today and prayers went up. So sorry. There were several tornados set down near us, but we, my grandson and I, are safe. We went to Havelock to shop and passed where a tornado came through and just demolished a housing development. It’s one thing to see it on TV and then another to get the full impact. We were both moved to tears. What was good to see were the number of people with chain saws and tools pitching in to help. No looters, just helpers! I love Eastern NC!

I am North west of Charlotte, we had some campers trapped by rising river waters but no fatalities, Thank God.. Most of the bad damage was east and north of here.

We had heavy rain, hail and nasty lightning with some wind but the worst passed further south and east of us.

I was in southern Wake County when the storm passed by behind me. My brother and I had been to a birthday party for my grand-nephew. We had a light rain on and off during the morning. I had suspected nothing when I started out from northern Wake County to Willow Springs. My brother and I ended up under a car wash roof to keep what we thought we would get, hail from denting our vehicles. It rained hard, so hard that it was almost a white out. We sat under the roof of the car wash watching the Fuquay-Varina police car go round and round as the traffic lights didn’t work at intersection that time.
The rain began to lessen and my brother was anxious to find out about his home. His last words to me before we parted were, “Don’t be surprise if you arrive home and the house is gone.” He had to find other ways to go home because the tornado touched down close to his home outside of Rolesville and the roads were fallen trees or electric lines. I took another route home and had no problem getting there. One scary afternoon that I hope that will never to be repeated again in my lifetime!
