Major maybe record flooding likley along the lower OH river...then the MS river downstream
American weather forums/central section/NWS ^

first of all a huge tornado outbreak is becoming likley mon-weds over a wide area..after that the big story will the flooding

already rivers are very high and are in flood, the ground is soaked, both the MS river and OH river and smaller rivers. 8-12 inches of rain is forecast over a very wide area the next few days. with isolated spots picking up more

local NWS discussions both public and private suggest an "epic" event.

The news media will be focused on the tornado side and with being a holiday weekend most people will not be paying attention

This is a vary rare case were both the OH river and Mid MS river above the OH will be in major flood at the same time. In 1993 the OH river was very low so the flooding below the OH was very minor

This time flooding exceeding the 1997 event on the OH river looks very likley maybe worse. The MS river above that not near as bad as 1993 but still major. The big news story may be where the two connect and then downstream.

The Ohio River watershed has had a very wet spring, with heavy rains recently. I don't doubt there will be problems downstream.

As a geological pondering, I wonder if the weight of all that water could cause an event with the New Madrid fault.

Purportedly large dams have caused quakes . . .

And, IIRC, sometimes water is thought to lubricate some fault situations—particularly when there's an excess of it in a shot time span.

Perhaps the experts will tell me I'm all . . . uhhh . . . wet

on such scores.???

Damns have been built on not known faults at the time the damn was built. There are deep faults, often not known and surface faults which are known. Yes, they can and have contributed to earthquakes. Yes, water does and can contribute to earthquakes, ...

from google ... you might find this of interest.
