This comes from a great fantasy series by George R. R. Martin. I got hooked by Game of Thrones, the first novel, when it came out in 1996, and I eagerly awaited the sequels.

They took longer and longer. I think the fourth novel came out in 2005, and now the fifth, and presumably not the last, is due out this July.

I don’t know if this TV series is a good thing or not. I’d like to see the book series finished. I don’t know if this will help push Martin into writing faster, or whether it will be a distraction from the original vision.

Any way, I recommend the books if you like really strong writing, some terrible things happening, but among the most powerful fantasy novels I have read. The downside, at the moment, is that the series isn’t finished. Probably not even half way finished, I suspect, although there is no indication how long it will be.

The first novel alone is worth reading on its own. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon.

I have neither. Just downloaded my fave shows using bittorrent and watch it anytime I want. Dont want to give HBO a ratings point, especially with the anti-Palin docu set up for next year.

I’d read the series several years ago. The show looks entertaining so far. I hope HBO has some contingency plans for future seasons, since the author of the series seems to be struggling with a monumental writer’s block

I was reading on the HBO site that the kid did not die but was paralyzed.
This show is ok so far, but I can’t wait for Boardwalk Empire to come back on.
Now THAT is a show!

Supposedly, we're topping out at seven books. So five are now written (including Dance with Dragons in July), leaving two to go. Books 4-5 are/were split personalities because the characters were split between multiple continents, but supposedly, books 6 and 7 will see them all back in Westeros so you'd like to think the timelines will be easier for GRRM to keep in sync. And hopefully, that means the next books come a bit faster than the last two.
