Arrested Development

2003-2005

TV-PG

Seasons 1-3

This wickedly funny Emmy-winning sitcom follows the tribulations of the Bluths, a wealthy California clan gone to the dogs after paterfamilias and real estate tycoon George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) gets busted for fraud. Now long-suffering son Michael (Jason Bateman) keeps the family business afloat as he spars with his boozy mother (Jessica Walter), vapid siblings (Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett and Tony Hale) and other wildly dysfunctional relatives.

Downfall

(Der Untergang / The Downfall: Hitler and the End of the Third Reich)

2004

R

156 minutes

After introducing audiences to Adolf Hitler's stenographer, Traudl Junge, in the gripping documentary Blind Spot: Hitler's Secretary, director Oliver Hirschbiegel brings Junge to life in this Oscar-nominated drama. With painstaking realism, Hirschbiegel's Best Foreign Language Film contender adopts Junge's (Alexandra Maria Lara) point of view to recreate Hitler's (Bruno Ganz) final 12 days in his Berlin bunker.

Just tonight, I went all the way back to 2007 to rate the movies I had neglected to *rate* because I was talking to my eldest son via phone and we were both bitching , *complaining* about netflix's *suggestions*...LOL.

Suck-gestions are lame, Amazon has a better system. Watch Downfall anyway, it is soup-herb!

Love Netflix. At 8 bucks a month I watch it more than DirecTV. Downfall is excellent!

Ha! That's pretty funny.

Ok... Hmm... A dysfunctional family where the head of the family/ leader is a/was convicted of/ fraud. Similar...

Ok, that's all I got!

What I love is our family all watches Netflix on various devices, and I will log on and see Because you loved The Chainsaw Massacre IV, you will love [something equally horror filled]. Or I could see Because You Loved “sponge bob season 7,” you will love.... So funny. You just can’t get a bead on this “customer” with 5 totally varying tastes.

I noticed that, no matter what I searched for on netflix, that horrible recent Jennifer Aniston movie "The Switch" would also pull up . The title I actually searched for would be first, then the awful "Switch" movie would also pull up, somewhere high on the first page...Over and over and over, no matter WHAT I searched for, there would be Jennifer Aniston making her patented "rom-com" face : Wrinkled forehead, eyes bugged out, jaw dropped and mouth gaping like a landed trout. Ugh! I have no idea WHY, as I (1.) hate rom-coms, and (2.) hate Jennifer Aniston (something weird about her face...) so I don't rent either rom coms OR Jennifer Aniston films. But there that thing was, time and time again. I'd shudder and scroll past, but finally I went to "The Switch" info page and told netflix, "Not Interested". Haven't seen it since.

Yeah, they have some...odd choices that come up, both for "interest in"/"taste preferences" or from doing a title search.

Isn’t the connection obvious? Arrested development was about a dysfunctional family and Hitler was the leader of a big dysfunctional family-NAZIS. :)
