Instead of spending another day immersed in Middle Eastern names, culture, religion, death and destruction, the world was treated to western culture, etiquette and a Christian gathering in the House of the Lord, to celebrate the marriage of a man and a woman who love one another.
It was a beautiful ceremony, in a beautiful setting.
It was uplifting. It was a happy, joyous day.
I wish the newlyweds a loving and productive life.
Queen Elizabeth can take a bow now that the British royal family will be in good hands after she's gone.

You are British. What were your thoughts and feelings about the royals, Kate and Will? Really, I think they are a little better than Diana and Charles (ok, I think more so than Diana and Charles.)
Yeesh...Of course kate was ‘calmer’ than Diana...she was 10 years older and had shacked up with William for 8 years!

this whole charade reminds me of the Ted Kennedy funeral...Catholic church even though he was soooo pro abortion ..conservatives got upset about that charade, but not this one.
Its one thing to shack up ( or as in William’s case to screw around as well)before you get married and flaunt that publically as “Hey, no problem, its the new generation, free love, free sex”, then decide to have this huge wedding religious charade...
Yeah, Catherine of Sienna and the other Saints must be real proud...
I’m not a monarchy fan, but I say “Amen.” It’s important to remember our Western heritage, and this was a good reminder of what we stand to lose if we don’t guard it.
And the 8 years of shacking up in public?
Sacrament of Marriage reverently elevated? Oh, yeah, shack up, screw around and then have a splashy wedding in a church...uh, we will just ignore the previous years.
I am not impressed with all the ‘sanctity”...I am impressed with the hypocrisy!
I refuse to go to a marriage between a couple that has been living together. Of course, I wasn’t invited to this one...

After 8 years of shacking up, what is the point of a big wedding? Who is being fooled? And the thrill of the wedding night? After 8 years, he’ll be lucky if she doesn’t have a headache tonight...
BTW - I wouldn’t mind it so much if it wasn’t a church wedding.
The sins of those joined in Holy Matrimony cannot detract from the beauty of the sacrament. It is truly a gift from God. I will pray that this couple grow in love with one another and with God, with whom, through marriage have joined in a trinity. Also, I forgive them as I pray that I have been forgiven.
The real charade wasn't the marriage of Kate and William but the piety and spectacle of the mass hysterical morning following Princess Diana's untimely death. If you have nothing nice to say about their marriage go start your own thread about sin. I imagine more than a few FReepers will come to your thread to say our God is a forgiving and loving God.

The level of sexual obsession about Kate Middleton I’ve seen on FR the last couple of days is stunning.
I am not an Anglophile, because I don’t think English is a prerequisite for Western civilization, but what they did, particularly by summoning up earlier Christian examples (for example, St Catherine of Siena), was to remind us all that Western Culture is something built on huge, deep sources.
Christianity originated in the Middle East and passed through Rome; many Jews were already Hellenicized (Greek influenced), and the Greek contribution to Christian thought was very strong. Catholic tradition holds that the various Apostles went out to different places (St. James the Greater to Spain, St Thomas to India, etc.). It is known that the only one who died a natural death, that is, not as a martyr, was St John the Evangelist.
Did you notice the Indians at this event? Kate invited the Indians who ran her local grocery to this. I loved them; they were smart and tasteful and on the same wavelength.
Judeo-Christian-Greco-Roman culture may be a mouthful, but that’s what we’re seeing whenever there is a purely traditional event in any country, be it Britain, Spain, or - well, I was going to say the US, but I don’t think we do those here anymore.
I find it a rather sad show put on by a dieing country
Its the hypocrisy. the hypocrisy of our society today...nothing personal ..they are just typical of our generation.
There were a few male Muslims with the Arab headgear on at the back of the Abbey. The Sultan of Dubai has a major role in British and American racing, and is received everywhere in the UK and the US, so one of them might have been him.
i think that a church wedding is appropriate if they have said they want to make a new start...its the charade at such a huge scale that gets to me.
and god forbid if you say that shacking up for 8 yrs and then doing this multi media, international event is hypocrisy..

..I think it is the “travesty” of our society that this wedding was on such a grand scale..
I don’t”forgive them”...that is not up to me, that is between them and thier God and their pastor. I do “judge “ those who made this such a farce on such a multi media scale, including the clergy...
