Kate puts on brave face amid tacky spectacle
New York Post ^ | April 30, 2011 | Andrea Peyser

Off with their hats! It was bigger than the Super Bowl and as tacky as a legion of Elvis impersonators. Most of all, it was disturbingly white. Yesterday's little wedding of William and Kate, a worldwide showcase of dreadful hats, fad diets and an unusually sour, lemon-yellow-clad queen, was designed to prove to the common man that the royals, finally, were down with the people. But from the moment a triumphant Kate tiptoed with her dad onto the red carpet -- yes, she walked an actual red carpet to and from the altar -- I saw not a potential queen. Kate bore the look of a lithe human sacrifice. Or was she ready to faint from her starvation diet? Her mouth smiled. But in her eyes -- terror. Who can blame her? Kate waited eight years for this moment, outlasting an endless parade of bimbos and stunning babes, most of them blond, at least five of them wedding guests (go figure, Brits), to win the hand of the badly balding heir to the throne. "You look beautiful!" William said, sounding a trifle too surprised, as she sailed into his orbit. These had to be the second-most dorky words ever to emerge from the mouth of a prince, after Wills' dad's unfortunate musings on becoming Camilla's feminine hygiene product. Kate did her best to paint on a smile, as the claustrophobically reserved royal mob made asses of themselves, craning their necks to give Kate the once-over, like a hunk of meat. It was showtime! Perhaps it was a bad omen. Or a sign of water retention. But when it came time to be Mr. and Mrs. Or Duke and Duchess. Or whatever the heck this pair will call each other in the

The Queen has NO power; she is a FIGUREHEAD,so stop trashing her and expecting her to rule, when she doesn't!

All of that "pomp" is what brings billions of tourists to England, which helps fill the coffers, which Labour then turns around and spend on garbage welfare/nanny state things.

Gotta laugh at those wondering about the scarcity of blacks at this wedding. Perhaps a few rappers and even some residents of inner Detroit should have been invited. Who wouldn't have enjoyed a drunken melee/shoot-up at a wedding?

Kudos to (utterly beautiful) Kate and her groom for not inviting the community organizer and his (utterly hideous) wife.

Pippa.

mmmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmm

Perhaps that's another reason for the acidic descriptions Ms. Peyser wrote. Kates sister looked smashing in that gown!

I couldn’t find one sentence in this diatribe that had any accuracy. Andrea Peyser is clearly consumed with bitterness.

The royal family and the Middletons DID pay for all except the security, IIRC. Perhaps they even did pick up some of the tab for security as well; I've seen conflicting reports about that.

Facts matter and it is wise to know then prior to posting. :-)

Apparently the royal family wanted Charles’ to take a bride who had a more limited ‘dating’ history. Camilla didn’t meet the requirement. Times have changed.

I think she’s mad the Obama’s weren’t invited.

I don’t think she would have written the column that way if she couldn’t see O’s smiling ears and his lovely and gracious wife.

Yes I am being sarcastic.

It’s OK. This kind of reaction to the wedding tells me all I need to know about Andrea Peyser and the classless newspaper who publishes her.

That and the fact that the Spencers are high aristocracy and Camilla's family not quite so much. Besides which, Camilla's great grandmother was King Edward VII's last mistress.

Thank goodness that William wasn't forced to marry someone he didn't know and care for!

” disturbingly white”?
Cause Obammy, the ,”magic negro” was snubbed.
Hell, would you want his shelf ass wookie wife at your wedding?
Or Obammy running in front of the camera during your wedding photos?

Kate showed class and beauty. Andrea showed tackiness and racism. Guess who my favorite of the two is.

Good grief. What a horrid article. I’m not surprised that there is someone this negative about the wedding. There is bound to be someone. I am just surprised that such pointless venom finds a publisher.

In a roundabout way she’s whining about the golfer-in-chief and his brood not being invited. Somebody who can Photo Shop should do Peyser up in black-face with a caption that encompasses that fact.

So she’s Married? I would never have guessed it.

Especially because of her comment about the prince telling his wife she was beautiful.

My husband talked about “How beautiful I was” coming down the aisle for a long time. It’s a gift a man can easily give his wife, because every woman is beautiful on her wedding day and the old tradition of not seeing the bride before the wedding is there for a REASON.

Andrea seems unfamiliar with this custom. Maybe her husband said to her, “Wow, you look less like a troll than usual!”

I know, that’s unworthy. But she deserves it.
