Kate puts on brave face amid tacky spectacle
New York Post ^ | April 30, 2011 | Andrea Peyser

Posted on 04/30/2011 12:51:30 PM PDT by this is my country

Off with their hats! It was bigger than the Super Bowl and as tacky as a legion of Elvis impersonators. Most of all, it was disturbingly white. Yesterday's little wedding of William and Kate, a worldwide showcase of dreadful hats, fad diets and an unusually sour, lemon-yellow-clad queen, was designed to prove to the common man that the royals, finally, were down with the people. But from the moment a triumphant Kate tiptoed with her dad onto the red carpet -- yes, she walked an actual red carpet to and from the altar -- I saw not a potential queen. Kate bore the look of a lithe human sacrifice. Or was she ready to faint from her starvation diet? Her mouth smiled. But in her eyes -- terror. Who can blame her? Kate waited eight years for this moment, outlasting an endless parade of bimbos and stunning babes, most of them blond, at least five of them wedding guests (go figure, Brits), to win the hand of the badly balding heir to the throne. "You look beautiful!" William said, sounding a trifle too surprised, as she sailed into his orbit. These had to be the second-most dorky words ever to emerge from the mouth of a prince, after Wills' dad's unfortunate musings on becoming Camilla's feminine hygiene product. Kate did her best to paint on a smile, as the claustrophobically reserved royal mob made asses of themselves, craning their necks to give Kate the once-over, like a hunk of meat. It was showtime! Perhaps it was a bad omen. Or a sign of water retention. But when it came time to be Mr. and Mrs. Or Duke and Duchess. Or whatever the heck this pair will call each other in the

an unusually sour, lemon-yellow-clad

Check out this unappealing picture; bitter, horrid Andrea was no doubt looking in a mirror when she wrote that descriptive phrase.

How much of that pomp is responsible for horrible social policies and excessive taxes?

Prime Ministers and parliament are responsible for those things, not royalty. The Queen can't raise one penny of tax, nor can she order one soldier to battle. The Royal Family generates hundred of millions for the British economy every year, just in tourism.

"....I think Andrea was pissed because the Obama’s weren’t invited......."

Raises an interesting point/question:

Were the heads of state from the rest of the free world invited....? Sarkozy? Merkel? Berlusconi? Scandanavia?

We all know why the Obamas were not invited.....

Thanks for the info and link. I was relying on my memory of a few of her past articles, wherein she mentioned some things about her family. I either misremembered, or she fudged some stuff in the past.

Period.

Neither the Sarkozys nor the Merkels were invited, though some royals and heads of state were.

Since William is second in line to the throne and not the heir, this was NOT a "state wedding", hence foreign leaders didn't have to be invited.

Only royalty from non-Commonwealth was invited. So no Sarkozy, Merkel, Berlusconi, etc. The prime ministers of Commonwealth nations were invited; Australia's PM Gillard was there, but Canada's PM Harper declined because of the general election coming up on Monday.

Indeed. Purposefully finding every single thing to be sneered at or distainfully described, in intentionally negative ways. For no good reason. Who finds this article to be of interest or true? It is snide and scathing from beginning to end.

I found the wedding beautiful, the Abby beyond compare, and most everyone invited wanted to look great, even if some of the choices were not the best. Kate's sister (bridesmaid) was beautiful too. William looked well in his red uniform ... very well cut. There are some people in life that cut everyone down, including Jesus Christ.

Pay no attention to this article's vile report.

The hats (almost all of them) seem designed to be stand outs, not becoming to anyone. They did get attention.

Kate (and William) wshowed their utter lack of class when they shacked up.

And if your kids/cousins/nieces/nephews/friends/siblings/self also were into the shacking up thing, the same holds true.

However, Obama wouldn’t fit anyway, as he is hardly a leader, instead.... he’s a World Loser.

*****

I remember someone else saying here that world leaders would not be invited, so the “snub” of Obama was meaningless.

Anyways, I hope Obama get’s right with the Lord before it is too late. I don’t wish hell on anyone, and God help me if I do.

Peyser’s bio page is a little ‘fudge-y’ .. i.e., she says she graduated from ‘the State University of New York.” NO ONE ever says they graduated from SUNY, it’s always SUNY-Albany or SUNY-Binghamton or SUNY-New Paltz. There are lots and lots of SUNY campuses, some better than others, especially in different disciplines.

There were a few other things I thought she’d glossed over when I read it (which I’m not going to repeat any time soon).

To say Charles could not marry Camilla? Why not? All he had to do back then was give up being the future king. Other royalty over there have done that. In fact, that's why Elizabeth is Queen now.

So if Charles had loved Camilla more than himself and the role of King, then he would have married Camilla and spared Diana, Camilla's ex husband, William, Harry and many others all the evil he delivered to them.

Gasp............that she graduated from "SUNY" ? Ye gods and little fishes, sounds like she's trying to cover up having gone to one of the lesser lights of that system. You're right, nobody, NOBODY say that they are going to/went to/graduated from SUNY!

Hence my confusion re where her parents were born....she played the same kind of game with that info, in a column or two.

Only one monarch has ever done that and he did so AFTER he had been crowned king!

Charles was raised to be the next king, which means that he took his duty more seriously than his own happiness. He was browbeaten on so many levels....not just on whom he couldn't marry, but where he had to go to school; where he was pretty miserable.

The Queen's late sister,Princess Margaret was also forbidden to marry the man she wanted to and also divorced her first husband, though she didn't then marry the man she had wanted to.

You can't judge these people the way you would your neighbor, nor say that they should do this or that; especially when you got the facts wrong, to begin with, on past royals and what they did or did not do.
