Most of all, it was disturbingly white.
But near the end she comes out with this:
The pomp and ridiculousness then spilled to the streets. Brits in T-shirts and jeans gathered for days to catch a glimpse of the white folks riding to Buckingham Palace, and a wedding night that is, famously, old news for the couple.
She was talking about race? White folks? What is up with that? That was the furthest thing from my mind when I watched the wedding. Ms. Peyser is, obviously, jealous of Kate, who seems like a very nice girl. Her tone throughout the whole article was to put down the royals, while assigning doom to Kate because of all that whiteness?
Nobody hates like he English.
I thought it was all beautiful though some of the hats were a little weird. No one was forced to watch it.
Andrea Peyser is nuts. Must have been drunk or stoned when she wrote this article.
Just another unattractive self-hating white lib female “Journ-O-List” using the defense mechanism of projection to cover her own racism and jealousy
This couple shacked up before the wedding.
Classy people don’t do that.
Charles was not allowed to marry the only true love he'd ever had and forced into the marriage with the psycho, immature, emotionally needy Diana.
Oh does this Peyser lady sound jealous. I’d hate to be in her circle of friends.
Andrea is a jealous loser.
Some people live to love...some live to hate. I think Andrea's got the second option pegged perfectly. Poor woman...
” Most of all, it was disturbingly white. “
LMAO at this hag. The Obama tribe is deliberately not invited and then along comes this tripe.
Andrea’s tone indicates she needs a good does of EXLAX. Either that, or she’s morphing into that hag Joy Behar.
Reminds me of what a friend said yesterday immediately after the kiss. She sent me an e-mail saying “Well, it’s all over now, except for the affairs and the divorce.”
Made me chuckle. I didn’t watch the wedding, but I do think Kate is very pretty and I would hope she and William would be able to maintain a faithful and loyal relationship, just as I hope for any newlywed couple.
The author’s focus on race in this article is ridiculous. I can’t imagine race having anything to do with the wedding, but some people just love to find fault.
It’s a very hateful piece.
I've noticed his receeding hairline and the bare spot on the back of his head. I suffer from the same thing. But its hard not to notice his mothers smile, and her good looks.
He MIGHT NOT be Brad Pitt or the"Hunk du Jour", but he is still relatively handsome and carries himself quite well.
And even if he weren't a royal, but a commoner, I think he'd still attract a fair stable of ladies. Some just a pretty as Kate.
Yes, it was beautiful. Kate’s sister was just as glamourous in that white dress she wore.
>>How long before William’s Camilla shows up in the tabloids?<<]
Given modern royals history, use a pocketwatch and not a calendar.
This is disgusting. The writer must be jealous or something.
A legitimate criticism, actually...
Yes, it is. I was so upset reading this after looking at the lovely pictures of Kate and Will.
Most women in white dresses look like they’ve just swallowed a bus. The author is most likely projecting.../s;)
Exactly right — on all counts.
What a contrived and pathetic piece.
I really hope for the writer’s sake she was tasked to write an Anti Will and Kate piece.
I hope she doesn’t really think that way.
"True," perhaps. "First," most definitely not. She is the first to make him put a ring on her finger as payment for giving it up, so that might say something about the depth of his feelings for her...
Interesting comment about it being “too white.” I wonder how many “black” wedding she has been invited to attend. As far as I know, guest lists at weddings are entirely up to the two people involved. Even presidents sometimes do not get invited.
White people are "DISTURBINGLY WHITE."
Dr. Seuss wrote about this a long time ago in his story, The Sneetches.
A long time ago it was "frightfully bad" to be caught with darker skin in some places. Now we are the reverse. You'd better have dark skin or you are a loser.
I think she's Jewish, but what her ancestry, vis-a-vis ethnic nationality is, I don not know.
She blows hot and cold. Sometimes her articles are quite good, other times they are patently ridiculous or even snarky/obscenely revolting. Not long ago there was a vast hue and cry over a very nasty anti-cat article she wrote, after some moron had cruelly tortured and killed his girlfriends cat.
At least one of the royals was involved in the Lockerbie bomber deal. Reason enough to go after the royals, Ms. Peyser. Did I miss your column on that...?
Don’t see too many white faces at one of Louie Far A Cans speeches, I wonder why....this race crap is getting old but I think its also losing its power for the democrats..
I guess if he had a bad reputation she would have something to hang her hat on, but all she can point to is badly balding heir to the throne
Who cares what this stupid person says. The wedding was beautiful as was the bride. As for being white; so what. Prince William had plenty of black guests and one his friends and partners from Africa are doing a joint effort to help the kids over there. His friend also lost his mother when young.
It shows how cheap these real racists are.
I think you summed it up pretty nicely.
The pictures said it all. No “common-tary” needed.
In Royal European weddings, during the Medieval time period, royal and not so royal ( if they could afford special clothes, which most couldn't ) wore blue, as did their attendants,in honor of the Virgin Mary.
“being snarky about the incongruity of a white wedding....”
I’ve been told that in these modern times, white just means that it’s the bride’s first WEDDING.
See, we can rationalize anything!
Andrea is a real beauty isn't she?
Just now, FOX ran a "highlight" piece - gotta admit it was funny when that one niece got out of the car and Shep emoted with "Oh, Good grief!".
Do we know that Andrea Peyser is English?
Yeah, notice how the writer had to mock William for balding? What’s up with that? Sheesh. Talk about vulgar.
Isn’t that Oprah’s Logo?
Um...it's the English royal family.
This is like saying that Will Smith's wedding was too black or Bobby Jindal's was too Indian.
I think Andrea was pissed because the Obama’s weren’t invited.
What a snarky POS reporter.
That is what I thought when I started reading the article, but she ended with that snide remark Brits in T-shirts and jeans gathered for days to catch a glimpse of the white folks riding to Buckingham Palace. That made me realize what she was referring to in the beginning.
1) Too many white people. Or virgins. Or whatever, white stuff. Peoples. Yuck.
2) The queen is ugly and yellow, like a lemon. Old rich people, yuck.
3) Bride is too skinny. Andrea hates skinny women. She must therefore be starving herself. Skinny women, yuck.
4) Bride is smiling, but Andrea sees terror in her eyes. Well, she is being watched by a billion people. But Andrea sees more than that! Human sacrifice to marriage! Gack!Yuck!
5) More snarky comments about too many blond, happy babies. White babies, more yuck.
6) Nasty comments about Charles idiot comments. Well, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Charles yuck.
7) Crowd is looking at Kate, therefore she is being treated like a piece of meat. Uhh, who is treating Kate like a piece of meat? Could it be our SNARKY reporteress? Can she not find a man who adores her, whom those about her would gaze on beamingly, happy in the thought that a couple might be taking a great dive into the hope of happiness?
Happy couples getting married, yuck, gack, choke! Poor Andrea. Poor, bitter Andrea.
I could go on but I'd have to give her nastiness a hit. Not doing.
Bitter, bitter, bitter. Yuck.
