Have to drive down I-24 through Paducah and to Benton, KY. Anyone know the road conditions south of Paducah?
Haven't heard anything about any I-24 issues here in Nashville.
If you hear banjoes, don’t stop.
The main roads are fine. Don’t take any side roads as we currently have lots of county roads closed here in Central Kentucky.
Wow, I hadn’t realized it had gotten that bad there. Will have to touch base with the in-laws.

..RAIN CAUSING NUMEROUS MUD SLIDES AND SUBSEQUENT ROAD CLOSURES...
MORE RAIN ON TOP OF VERY SATURATED SOILS HAS CAUSED A NUMBER OF ROADS IN STEEPER TERRAIN TO BE CLOSED DUE TO EITHER THE ROAD BED BEING UNDERMINED...OR MUDSLIDES COVERING THE ROAD.
THE MOST AFFECTED AREAS WILL BE THOSE IN STEEPER TERRAIN IN THE COUNTIES ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE HIGHER RIVER...WHICH INCLUDES MOST OF NORTHERN KENTUCKY...AND EXTREME SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH CENTRAL OHIO.
AS RAIN CONTINUES TO FALL TODAY...THESE ROAD CLOSURES ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN NUMBER AS THE SATURATED SOILS CONTINUE TO SLIP OFF THE HILLSIDES AND ONTO ROADS AND HIGHWAYS.
IF YOU ENCOUNTER AN AREA WHERE THE ROAD APPEARS TO BE
BUCKLING...OR WATER IS FLOWING OVER A ROAD...OR MUD HAS SLID ONTO THE ROAD...STOP AND TURN AROUND. REPORT THE CONDITIONS TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

LaRue, Nelson schools cancel classes because of flooding

Rain slows spring planting High water is forcing detours today including major highways. Hardin and all of its neighboring counties are under a flood warning today.
Pre-school classes at Valley View Education Center on Hawkins Drive in Elizabethtown have been canceled today and alternative students have been moved to Elizabethtown High School.
Rising water levels prompted the Department of Highways to close U.S. 31W in the southern portion of Elizabethtown until further notice. Running water over the roadway is making travel impassable along East Dixie Avenue near the Interstate 65-Western Kentucky Parkway overpasses.

The city fire station on East Dixie had bay doors open this morning so the advancing water could pass through. Standing water had previously closed Steele Drive and parts of Hawkins Drive on Elizabethtown’s south side. Other detours are in effect in the Valley Creek area and along South Wilson Road in Radcliff.
Schools in LaRue and Nelson counties are closed today because flooding has made some primary roads impassable, including U.S. 31E near Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Hodgenville.
The Kentucky Mesonet station in Cecilia reading at 11 a.m. indicates the area has received 1.64 inches since midnight. Most of it fell overnight during a steady deluge. That follows more than 3 inches that fell the first two days of May and a record rainfall in April of 16.72 inches.
All low-lying areas are subject to flooding.
Motorists are reminded of dangers associated with driving through standing water. Do not attempt to bypass barriers erected on closed streets.
Ky has had about 15 inches of rain in the past 12 days.
Interstate system is fine.
I can’t vouch for any of the state roads or rural roads.

I can appreciate all the humor that has come back at me from some, but it’s serious, as you know, when you have to be somewhere, and you get stuck in high water, or have to do a lot of back-tracking.
The motels in Paducah and environs are full of people who can’t get to their homes because of all the rain, flooding, and washed-out roads.
