Sure thing, but things have been awfully sparse these last couple of days. Camping’s got about 200,000 disciples, but that’s not many compared to the overall populace. So, exposure’s going to make the difference, here. I’m going to need a whole lot more social networking power than I’m getting.

Maybe if I could get TWO cars out of this deal, then sell one and donate all the proceeds back to FR...

Of course, it is possible that Camping’s adherents just don’t own nice cars. I suppose that would explain why I’m not getting any bites.

Sadly, my earnest overtures haven't gained the traction one might have expected. Harold Camping has, by reliable reports, around 200,000 contributors who listen to his teaching and give to his, uh, "ministry." Statistically, that means there IS SOMEONE among those 200,000 — a real True Believer — who has a pretty danged nice car AND would be willing to part with it for $500 here in these, uh, Last Days.

I WANT TO FIND THAT PERSON.

May 21st 20011 is right around the corner, and I'd really hate to see anyone do what it takes to get in on the big exit, but leave a nice car to just rot in the driveway.

I’m trying to find an Internet forum where such true believers gather, but so far without success.

The whole thing is beginning to take on the feel of a PR campaign where everyone goes along with it at a superficial level, but only a handful are really all in.

So, out of Camping’s 200,000 I’d guess maybe 50 are REALLY convinced that Judgment Day will be May 21st.

That’s my take on it; bunch of folks out there trying to humor an old man on the fringe of outright senility.

Which provokes the question of how many True Believers all of these prophets and media preachers do have, and who they are. Are they all seniors in old folks homes, as was apparently the case with the old Jim and Tammy (Bakker) scam?

True, but I know as an eyewitness that they’re out there; and not hiding out in Leisure World, either.

Just Sunday afternoon I spotted an older gentleman in a newer Ford pickup, tooling along on I-680 with custom-made magnetic signs on both doors: “JDGMENT DAY! MAY 21...”

The guy was obviously pretty serious. I’m wondering, now, what he’d have said if I’d have flagged him down and offered to give him $500 for the truck come, oh, maybe May 19th.

As I noted previously, I’ve enough compassion for these dupes that I’d let them reverse the transaction on May 22nd if they still had the $500. But I am genuinely curious how many people have REALLY bouth the line that Camping’s peddling.
