Posted on 05/11/2011 10:42:16 AM PDT by library user
My address bar in Firefox has turned into a google search box.
I can't go the "about:config" route to fix since I would need the address bar to do that.
I checked for viruses and get none.
I unlocked the toolbars, thinking maybe the address bar was hidden and could be dragged out. No dice.
Any suggestions most appreciated.
Here's a screen cap. Hopefully it shows up.
Do a System Restore.
Go to your Start Menu or Button, click Mozilla Firefox (safe mode) click restore original firefox settings and restart session.
Select VIEWS-—>TOOLBARS——>NAVIGATION TOOLBAR (make sure it is checked)
I did. Working on somebody else’s computer. Apparently it’s been this way for months.
I upgraded to the latest Firefox and that didn’t fix either.
Press the F11 key.
There is no folder for Mozilla Firefox in the Start menu. Weird. It’s on my own home PC, I know that. When I go to Start, the only thing Firefox related is just “Mozilla Firefox” but when you clicked on it, it launches Firefox only. There is no folder. It’s basically just a link to launch the regular mode.
Yep, it’s checked.
LOL. Full screen. Yes. Did not change anything, though. :O)
I managed to try that by holding down the SHIFT key while launching firefox. I put a tick mark in the box you said, but I still have google for the address bar.
Hover your mouse over the left end of the google search box and see if the cursor changes to a slider arrow. The search box is width adjustable, maybe someone just adjusted it all the way to the left to take up the entire width.
Be back in a bit. Going to run a scanner. Thanks for the replies thus far.
Nope, no dice.
Do you have ANY toolbar displayed?
1. Go to Menu —> View —> Toolbars —> Customize...
2. In the dialog that comes up, choose Create New Toolbar or restore defaults.
Create such using any name, anything.
3. Click Done
The new toolbar shall be perched beside the Menu bar, you can leave it there or drag it elsewhere. But it doesn’t matter.
Once you have any toolbar, just right click in a blank area of the toolbar and select Customize... you can then select anything you want to rebuild the toolbar.
the officially supported way :
What you are showing is the Google Search function.
Go to ‘tools’ add-ons and remove ‘Google search’.
I didn’t notice the picture you posted.
Someone simply removed the address block from the address toolbar.
Each piece of a toolbar in FF is modular, you lost that module.
right click on any empty space in that toolbar, click “Customize...” then select the “restore default set” then click “done”.
You should be good to go.
When I put my mouse cursor in between the Google box and the address box, I see a double-ended arrow for resizing the Google box.
If you put your mouse cursor in the small space to the left of the Google box, do you see an arrow? If so, drag to the right.
Nah, it couldn’t be as simple as that.
Try going to View-Toolbars-Customize and select Restore Defaults. Will remove other custom toolbar setup.
If not, may have to uninstall Firefox to remove registry artifacts and then re-install.
Okay. Go to All Programs, scroll to Mozilla Firefox, click and a drop down menu will have Firefox (safe mode). Click that and your menu should have the Return to all Original Settings. Let me know.
If you still want to get to about:config, just create a shortcut that contains:
“C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” about:config
Assuming of course, you have firefox in that particular path otherwise point it to where you have firefox installed.
Switch to MS Internet Explorer.
Dump the Google toolbar.
Any suggestions most appreciated.:-)
Will remember that for the future.
Yours was the only suggestion I hadn’t tried (I didn’t see it before I re-installed FF).
Used Revo Uninstaller and totally removed Firefox. Then re-installed it.
We lost some bookmarks but other than that all went well.
Thanks to everyone for their knowledge and tips!
This may help you get your bookmarks back:
Very helpful. Thanks!
