8th-Grader Punished After Reporting Students Had Sex On Bus
WHIO-TV ^ | 5/13/11

An eighth-grade charter school student who said she saw two classmates having sex on a bus during a group spring break trip is being punished for reporting the incident, her mother said.

The girl, who goes to Dayton View Academy, waited until she got home to tell her mom what she saw. The school is punishing her for not telling chaperons who were on the bus at the time it happened.

"If you tell something on a kid, you have to look for the response from that child and at the time," said Saundra Roundtree, the girl's mother. "She was afraid. I told her 'don't say anything when you are at school. I will handle it.' "

Roundtree said her daughter won't be able to go to her eighth-grade prom or the class picnic. The students who reportedly had sex are being punished as well, but Roundtree feels as though disciplining her daughter sends the wrong message. She added that all eight chaperons were sitting in the front of the bus watching a movie when the incident occurred.

IMHO:

The eight chaperones are quilty of child neglect, they should all be fired and charged.

The little girl is a child and therefore not responsible for “failing to report” the act. It is very understandable that she would have been afraid to act at the time.

The chaperones in that situation are acting en loco parentis, that is, they have full responsibility for all the children on the bus. Trouble is, today, they don’t discharge their responsibility, they don’t offer any meaningful discipline as a normal course of businessness, so the “cat is away” and the mice will play. Case in point, they were ignoring all their charges and watching a movie.

Public schools should all be shut down and parents should all be on their own to send to a private school or home school. Authority and Responsiblity must be granted in equal measure, and in the case of their children, parents have full authority and full responsibility.

But I guess not in the wacky world we live in.

I suppose they are punishing all the other students on the bus too. No way this was the only kid to see what was happening.

A false rape charge can seriously F up a guy’s whole life.

IMO, the penalty for making such a false charge, should be made quite similar to the penalties for a rape.

Deliver a long sentence. Register the person as someone who would destroy someone else for personal gain.

Set up guidelines that would prevent this type of person from being considered for certain types of employment for life.

I honestly cannot imagine someone being willing to destroy someone in this manner falsely.

If Americans needed ANY MORE PROOF of the TOTAL LOGICAL BANKRUPTCY of the idiots who run our “educational” institutions, THIS is IT.

The way I read this, she wasn't punished for reporting the incident but for not reporting it.

Somewhere between "if you see somthun, say somthun" and snitches deserve stiches, lies the right to mind your own business.

That's the last time I tell you anything mom!

I have no idea because the media only writes what it wants us to hear. The parents can always take her out of the school but I don’t believe they will because it is a charter school and they are extremely difficult to get into. She will suck it up and miss the 8th grade prom.....whoever heard of such a thing anyway. She can go to her junior prom like everyone else in history.

Okay, punishing someone for trying to do what she was instructed to do, and not allowing for a margin of doubt. What if she honestly did what others would do, and wait to make sure no one would report the incident? Plus she doesn’t need to have her name mentioned everywhere either! Nothing is worse to deal with than a disciplinary code which cannot be satisfied.

I honestly cannot imagine someone being willing to destroy someone in this manner falsely.

Duke Lacrosse players bring back memories? Also how the state prosecutor willfully and knowingly conspired with the police to supress exculpatory evidence. It's all to easy to imagine when the masses are being whipped up with envy from the news media and the Democrats on a daily basis.

That is because you are not female, liberal, irresponsible, Femi-Nazi in outlook, etc.

I already do home school my eight year-old son. I don't want him to put up with bullying, being dumbed down, the lies and trash they teach, etc. I'm glad I'll never have to worry about putting him in a situation like this. I know there are times when my mom wanted to strangle teachers and principals throughout my time in school. The way schools are now I'd be up there everyday. Luckily, thanks to my hardworking husband, I can stay home and we can relax knowing our son is actually LEARNING (who knew?) and not being indoctrinated.

The children, which is exactly what they were, had no clue the seriousness of the whole thing.
The girl had figured out she was pregnant. I guess she didn’t realize they would know how pregnant she was when examined at the hospital and that it did not occur on this trip.
She made a false allegation to shift blame from herself without a thought to the harm she could have caused the boy.
The boy thought the whole thing was a joke and when questioned kept laughing and saying “with her?” Finally he was told point blank “get serious, this can destroy you and your future”.

The time between the girl making the allegation and finding out that it hadn’t was hard on the teachers and chaperones. We couldn’t believe it had happened but kept going over the “hows” if it was proved that it had.

That’s a good case to mention. It’s what happened in that case isn’t it. It still baffles me how a person could set a guy(s) up like that falsely. You have to be a seriously flawed individual to destroy others in this manner.

She's being punished for embarrassing the people in charge. Nobody can say she isn't getting an education.

Punished for not reporting it until afterwards.

The message delivered is that students are better off to not report it at all. Then she would have avoided punishment for exposing the brain-dead chaperones.

I agree, but there are plenty of people who are "seriously flawed individual"s running around loose - many of them in positions of authority. I personally think that a false accusation of rape should carry EXACTLY the same punishment as rape - stiff jail sentence.
