The cold spring apparently has slowed sales of Minnesota fishing licenses.
Sales through Monday are down 21 percent compared with the same time last year.
"We think it's likely the cool spring weather,'' said Ed Boggess, DNR Fish and Wildlife Division director. "And last year we had an early, warm spring and sold a lot of licenses early.''
Sales are down just 9 percent from 2009 and are up about 1.5 percent from 2008, which was another cold spring, Boggess noted. The DNR had sold 344,189 licenses through Monday. Last year, the agency had sold 435,270 licenses.

Dude! Is the ice off all the lakes yet? -)
I’m in Memphis and the low tonight is 49.
But ..But ... BUT Where is the Global WARMING???
Yes.
But just barely.
Weather blamed for 21 percent increase in pregnancy test sales (MN)
The water temp never got above 49 degrees this weekend.
Glad to hear it, wouldn’t want to keep the may flies, june bugs and skeeters from doing their thing..
Good luck regardless,, altho the new invasive species rules sure might make it a bit messier for those who like to hit different spots and take their fishing seriesly..
I would bet the real reason is the cost of gasoline.
Who can afford to haul a boat hundreds of miles to get to the lakes, and then fill up the boat tanks ... and buy a license ?
I turned it off...then back on again...then off...turned on the AC...turned it off...furnace back on...then off again.
Turned AC on again today (son has major allergies & we can’t have the windows open)- still love living in Minnesota!
Louisiana is being flooded by late snow melting in the upper Midwest.
Two dots the MSM cannot connect, along wth that *Sun* thingy.
Fishing opener was just fine, except the fact that just maybe...some people are cutting back on expenses, and fishing, unfort’, is one of them, and... sometimes I just don’t think I NEED a license to go fishing. So there.
So there...
;-)
I was in Florida this past weekend and it was warm there.
