Macho Man Randy Savage -- one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time -- died today in a car accident in Tampa, Florida ... TMZ has learned.
TMZ spoke with Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 AM ... and lost control of his vehicle.
Earlier this month, Savage celebrated his 1-year anniversary with his new wife Lynn.
Savage was 58.
Macho Man began wrestling in the WWF in 1985 and became a superstar with his trademark catchphrase "Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh."
UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ ... Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median ... through oncoming traffic ... and "collided head-on with a tree."
Savage was transported to Largo Medical center, where he died from his injuries.
Savage's wife was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision -- but survived with "minor injuries." She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated.
According to officials, Randy and Lynn were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Cops say alcohol was NOT a factor.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
58 is far too young - RIP Macho Man.
Quite the character :
Wow. Prayers to his new wife. Terrible story.
"I can snap a telephone pole! "-Randy Savage.
Well....looks like you snapped something else bud.
Wow. Sorry to hear that. Tornados ravage the South, Obama turns his back on Israel, and the Macho Man dies. Not a good month.
ROFLMAO! Wrestling is entertainment, not a competitive sport. Just have muscles and a spiffy costume!
Rest in peace Macho Man, and may you fly gracefully off the great turnbuckle in the sky.
One of my all time fave wrestlers.
He was actually a pretty good technical wrestler before he started the roids....
LONG LIVE ANDY KAUFMAN! GREATEST WRASTLER IN THE WORLD!
Too many “Slim Jim’s”???
He was the guy in the cage fight scene in “Spiderman.”

Hawking his action figure in 2010.
He always had a knack at injecting comedy into his tough guy routine that made him stand out :
He’s reunited with Miss Elizabeth.
Well, I've got a spiffy costume ...
Fake? Fake? You think wrestling's fake? See ...
If you’re going to mock someone who just died in a traffic accident, go over to DU or Daily Kos. Jerk.
Wow, feels like part of my childhood died since I was a big pro wrestling fan in the early/mid 90’s.
RIP RANDY AND ANDY!
Sorry to hear this. Guess we're all getting older each day. Wonder what Elizabeth is doing these days.
One of the more memorable moments for me at the gym was the day I was working out and looked up and ten feet away was Randy Savage standing there quietly doing dumbbell curls. He was in town for some reason and got a 1-day guest pass to workout at the gym. He was a nice guy, quiet and reserved, not at all like his public persona (of course!). Very sad news. RIP.
Uhhh, she's no longer with us.
Miss Elizabeth passed on several years ago. So did Sensational Sherry who the Macho Man also had a relationship with.
Agreed. Too bad this guy died, but “Pro” wrestling is retarded. White trash polo.
Elizabeth passed away a few years ago, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Elizabeth .
...snicker...never heard that before, and I'm in Arkansas.
Rest in peace, Macho Man. -/\-
That's even sadder.
"On May 1, 2003, in Marietta, Georgia, Lex Luger called 9-1-1 from his home and reported that Elizabeth was not breathing. She did not respond to mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and paramedics rushed her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Elizabeth was 42 years old.......a search of the residence revealed a number of illicit controlled substances, including anabolic steroids, OxyContin, synthetic growth hormone, testosterone, temazepam and alprazolam.
Feeling that the lifestyle and being a part of that industry had taken her daughter from her, Elizabeth's mother pointedly banned anyone from the wrestling industry from attending her funeral, which was held in Kentucky."
Who would have thought George “The Animal” Steele would outlive both Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth...
A friend was working in a hotel years ago and a number of the wrestlers were staying there one weekend. He was alone in the elevator when Savage got in, calm and normal. He recognized him (obviously) and said “Hey Macho Man. What’s up?” Savage immediately got into character and said “Goin’ down to the pool, gonna git me a tan. Oooohhh Yeaaaahhhhh!”
My friend said all of the wrestlers he met were great guys, but Macho Man was the best.
Knew how to do it :

Dang... one of the greats. Loved Ms. Elizabeth!
Sad. Steroids take their toll.
As always, if you'd like ON or OFF my wrasslin' ping list, let me know
make that "LONG LIVE ANDY KAUFMAN! GREATEST WOMEN'S WRASTLER IN THE WORLD!
Very conservative as well.
My thoughts when I read this too...
Used to watch him and his brother “Leaping Lanny” Poffo wrestle on TV when I was a kid. Sorry to hear he passed at such a relatively young age.
Did he use Just for Men...??
R.I.P. Randy Savage.
Damn sorry to hear this. I always liked Macho Man Randy.
I would have thought Scott “Razor Ramon” Hall would have been next. RIP Macho Man...he was the first heel (bad guy) I ever saw the fans take to...
