Parents keep child's gender secret

“So it’s a boy, right?” a neighbour calls out as Kathy Witterick walks by, her four month old baby, Storm, strapped to her chest in a carrier.

Witterick smiles, comments on the sunny spring day, and keeps walking.

She’s used to it. The neighbours know Witterick and her husband, David Stocker, are raising a genderless baby. But they don’t pretend to understand it.

Witterick and Stocker believe they are giving their children the freedom to choose who they want to be, unconstrained by social norms about males and females.

“What we noticed is that parents make so many choices for their children. It’s obnoxious,” says Stocker.

The boys are encouraged to challenge how they’re expected to look and act based on their sex.

“In fact, in not telling the gender of my precious baby, I am saying to the world, ‘Please can you just let Storm discover for him/herself what s (he) wants to be?!”

When asked what psychological harm, if any, could come from keeping the sex of a child secret, Zucker said: “One will find out.”

The couple plan to keep Storm’s sex a secret as long as Storm, Kio and Jazz are comfortable with it. In the meantime, philosophy and reality continue to collide.

There are questions about which bathroom Storm will use, but that is a couple of years off. Then there is the “tyranny of pronouns,” as they call it. They considered referring to Storm as “Z”. Witterick now calls the baby she, imagining the “s” in brackets.

For the moment, it feels right.

“Everyone keeps asking us, ‘When will this end?’” says Witterick. “And we always turn the question back. Yeah, when will this end? When will we live in a world where people can make choices to be whoever they are?”

Stupid asses. Their baby already is someone. He or she doesn’t have to discover it. They act like the baby (child) can choose different DNA from what it’s born with.

“What we noticed is that parents make so many choices for their children. It’s obnoxious,” says Stocker.

That's because... they're CHILDREN and don't know better.

What a nut.

How did these two morons manage to conceive?

And let the little crumb-cruncher try wandering into the wrong bathroom under guise of "countering the insidious practice of gender-norming" or somesuch.

He will be on so many sexual-predator lists; she, if older, will be sexually harrassed in a heartbeat.

Next stop: bestiality. ("Why be speciesist in love?")

NO cheers, unfortunately.

And yet I bet these clowns want Washington to make all the choices for us, and for Tea-Partiers and Christians to be disenfranchised, because "they don't know enough to make responsible decisions."

Cheers!

Nitwits breeding. Nitwits reporting on them. The brother’s hair is worn in long, braided pig tails. Wonder if Storm was born without genitals, because that would seem to solve the mystery.

This is complete and utter lunacy.

Though I guess it is in California, so one shouldn’t be shocked.

This is unbelievable.

I notice the article says they vacationed in Cuba, and spent time there learning about the revolution. And they spent time in Mexico with some rebel groups who had been fighting the government there.

The mom and dad have different last names, so that right there tips us off that they are liberal radical types, having to make that particular political statement.

Yep, all of society, and every culture on earth, is wrong about gender roles, gender norms, all of that. Only these 2 liberal parents know what is best for the world. (sarcasm)

What is better for the kids? Being raised genderless in a world in which male and female are universal constants, AND, always having to fight to explain things to the rest of the unenlightened world which has no clue what you are doing or why you are doing it? Or is it better to conform to societal expectations so that the rest of your life runs more smoothly?

I guess radical liberal types want to fight with everybody, every day, about how enlightened they are, rather than conform.

It would be intersting to test these parents in some ways. For example, what if I want the wife for myself? What if I want their house and all their personal belongings, because I think the social norm of private property, home ownership, the status of their marriage, etc. is simply a social construct which doesn’t allow us to really express our true feelings. What would their reactions be to something like that? Would they excuse that because of someone else expressing themselves, or would they fall back on social norms regarding those issues?

These people live in Toronto.

Well, Canada, California, wherever, doesn’t matter so much as the liberal radical thought process behind this nonsense.

It’s a boy, because they wouldn’t be concerned with suppressing the natural tendencies of a girl.

They won’t be consistent with the “neutral” claim.
They will attempt feminize him.

I hope he overcomes their nonsense.

nature vs nurture lol nature always wins. Cultural norms change, think about the pics of Churchill when he was a toddler.. he was dressed as a toddler, but at first glance using todays lense, most would believe he was a girl.

As much as these parents would like to think they are raising a gender neutral child... it simply can’t be done. Costuming does not equate gender.
