Really? ...' Born-Again' believers - Have Smaller Brains

(Men vs. Women Brains?)

Well, there you have it.

So are Born Again believers dumb? Oh no, they're not saying that... directly. But that's how some will view a new study from Duke University Medical Center. According to the researchers (Their brain size is unknown) Protestants have bigger brains than born-again Christians.

The study, which examined the hippocampus region of the brain, found that Protestants who did not have a "born again" experience had significantly more gray matter than either those who reported a life-changing religious experience, Catholics, or unaffiliated older adults."

So, are men's brains bigger than women's brains?

The brain of the men is, on average, 100 grams (0.3 pounds) heavier than that of the women.

The way I see it is this: There is no real scientific way to prove whether a person is a true believer in Christ. Just as there is no real scientific way to prove whether a person loves another person. Actions are not proof. So, I suppose the question to be asked is this: How did the researchers determine whether the person was a born-again Christian? Also, I know “born-again” Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, non-denoms, etc. etc. It makes no sense.

Catholics..doesn’t the Pope tell them what to think? The Muzzies may be in that same grouping, the local Imam and the Koran don’t allow then to think outside the box.

the only way to tell if someone is truly a Christian is if they have a fish on the back of their car.

Your brain changes, according to the stimuli that you give it, so it’s quite likely, if this test is reproducible, that it’s due to how evangelical Christians are taught to think.

"'Born-Again' Believers - Have Smaller Brains...

Neanderthals' brains were as large as, and in some cases larger than, modern humans' brains... and so what?

There are other sources, but Wiki will work for now

Control for time dependence of conversion, nutrition, age, co-existing disease, race, gender, socioeconomic status, or other religions much?

I won't be surprised when they report alcohol, drugs, lying, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and all manner of sin makes brains larger.

Did they include psychologists and/or sociologists in the sample?

Cheers!

"Protestants who did not have a "born again" experience had significantly more gray matter than either those who reported a life-changing religious experience,"

This was written and the study conducted by people who have no clue about Christianity. There is no such thing as a non-born again Christian" - ALL Christians are born again Christians as Jesus said one cannot be a Christian unless they are born again.

I posted the link to IronShrink.com. He’s had some interesting analysis of studies showing disparities in brains of conservatives versus liberals and I was curious to see if he would have time to look at this study.

But somebody told YOU to think that.

That also would have to be determined and accounted for. I wasn’t taking shots against Evangelicals, and all Christians are brothers, regardless of their faith and we will all be one faith in heaven.

If, after everything is accounted for, that it still holds true, my position is that it is not the faith itself that is at fault, but those who practice limitations in their faith or who teach that your faith must be limited in various ways.

All one has to do to counteract the possible effects of their faith is to go practice skills that exercise each part of the brain.

This story is a very small thing and incomplete as to what is happening. Not a big deal.

“The brain of the men is, on average, 100 grams (0.3 pounds) heavier than that of the women.”

This is the only sentence you need if some imbecile tries to call Christians stupid because of smaller brains.

That's why a control for age at conversion / apostasy (nd education) would be so important; and a parallel study on generosity /empathy given to intellectuals and to atheists. The unspoken hit on Christians isn't the obvious one that "Christians are dumb"; rather it is the message that "intelligenceTM is all that *really* matters."

Cheers!
