My “SMART” system could automatically handle TWO phone calls at the same time, hahaha.
As I see the way technology is taking society today, I am quite thankful to be well into my 60s.
I always knew of that photo of the 60's chick because I am an old Merc fan. Ran across it last year looking for parts for my 560 SEL. Thought that phone system was cool. Hump rotary.

This was before cellular...dates back to the 50/60s.
I also became the first agent in my county for BellSouth Mobility when cellular came out.
My first was also a Motorola bag phone, with external mag-mount antenna.
Customers had to have a credit check just to get a phone number.
Quite a change today.
Even here in the Philippines, the poorest kid, with little more then 2 pesos to rub together has a portable phone, and can even be on Yahoo with it.
There are three carriers, even out in the remote provinces.
I wish we could go back to those days. I never had a “dropped call” with the bag phone on the analog signals. They made great calls. I used to call in cheese steak orders for the ride home at the bar and at least two chicks would come along for the ride. Good odds for a nerd like me. The night always ended very well.

Well, I would not know about that, as I have been out of the business for some years, but I will say that the digital service I had in central Europe, and now in the Philippines, could not be any better.
I do not know what it is to have a dropped call, but 80 percent of my use is texting.

Perhaps not, but I don't think its a good idea having microwave energy transmitted so close to your head (and I am no Luddite, not in the least.)
That said, the real danger from cellphone usage is the distraction that comes with its use, especially when driving. I saw a kid who was texting while talking, fail to see the stepdown while leaving a store the other day, kid landed on his hands and knees, his smartphone (dumb owner) landed about 25 feet away... wonder if he sued...

Actually...those old mobile phones that used an MTSO to route calls were very high powered as compared to phones in use today. I cannot attest to the frequency used but presumably the risk was higher based on the power output.
In fact, the frequencies used by handheld phones to transit to a cell tower are in the 900Mhz range. High...but not microwave.
Fine, lets change that to UHF, still don't think its a good idea to have such a thing transmitting one inch away from your gray matter.
