Yet another teacher in Texas has been jailed for having sex with one of her students.
Christina McCann is the fourth teacher from the Lone Star state to be locked up in recent weeks for illegal sexual activity with a student. The 39-year-old is alleged to have had sex with an 18-year-old student she was chaperoning during a conference for future business leaders.
Investigators in Austin,Texas claim McCann had been drinking with some of the six students she was in charge of during a competition organised by the Distributive Education Clubs of America. Detectives believe McCann was drinking alcohol with the students when one of them returned to her hotel room and a sexual encounter took place. The incident took place in February while McCann and her students were staying at a hotel in Fort Worth.

The Distributive Education Clubs of America seeks to prepare students to become leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance and hospitality. Police began investigating McCann after a tip off and she resigned from her job as a marketing teacher at the High School last month.
A warrant was issued for her arrest last week and McCann turned herself in on Monday. She was charged with an improper relationship between educator and student. Bail was set at $10,000. McCann follows three other Texas teachers who are all facing jail after being charged with having sex with their students. So, you’re okay with a person in a position of power engaging in such behavior with someone who they hold power over?
I don’t necessarily.....HOWEVER, JAIL???? That is where the line should be drawn. Fire her, but don’t put her in jail. He is 18 years old. There is not one issue here that should cause her to go to jail.

Ask a teacher what happens if they make a kids grade suffer after they hit on a kid and the kid says no. You guys are nuts to think she had power over him. The instant she so much as HAD A BEER with them, the kids owned her.
It would be more plausible to expect that a kid could blackmail HER into doing what he wanted. But anyway, this sounds consensual, between adults.

I dunno, I was an undersexed, overstimulated 18 year old boy, once. In that state, so long as she didn't have a full beard, and had bathed within the past month, she'd look pretty good.
She looks like she might be a "disciplinarian." My behavior hasn't been all that good lately.
Who said that? No, it's not OK. But it doesn't need to be a criminal offense either. Just because something is a bad idea doesn't mean it has to be against the law. School district policy is plenty.
But now I read that apparently Texas does have such a law. The only way that makes any sense is if there is any evidence of coercion. Absent that... and if everybody's over 18, there's no reason that a law needs to cover it. Let the school discipline or fire the teacher. Done.

Texas can be backwards sometime. I hope this teacher takes this to the Supreme Court. There is no reason whatsoever that a law like this is on the books. Of course the law was put on the books before the changed the birthday start of Kindergarten. They thought they were being smart, but now you have Seniors who are 18 and 19 years old. Dumb a$$es....(people who love to change laws for the good of the children).
Could this be, in part, due to the fact that she furnished this student, and some others, with alcohol? Or, is this okay too? Is there a law in Texas where a teacher engaging in sex with a student, regardless of the student’s age is, is illegal? If so, then the cops are following the law. Don’t like that law? Then have the state legislature change it.

In Texas there is a statute that makes sex between a teacher and student a criminal offense. Age doesn’t matter.
That statute better not apply to college students and professors.
A person with power over another person regardless of their age.
for instance an adult boss may not use his position to intimidate an adult employee to provide sexual favors.
In Texas, it is against the law for any public school teacher to have 'relations' with a student, no matter the age.
I don’t believe it either. That is just what the police will say.
