From another article:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81fe108e/printable/magic-calls-on-fans-to-sign-petition-for-la-football-stadium

AEG has said it would pick up the entire $1 billion construction tab for its stadium. The venue would be constructed over half the existing convention center, which would be rebuilt to attract more conventions. The company’s plan calls for the city to issue some $350 million in bonds to finance the demolition and relocation of the contention center hall displaced by the stadium.

They pay the entire cost, except for $350 million - or 35%. Wow that’s almost like it’s free.

The company’s plan calls for the city to issue some $350 million in bonds to finance the demolition and relocation of the contention center hall displaced by the stadium.

So at least $350 million of taxpayer money will be wasted. Of course once these bonds are paid off the city will out $1 billion or so.

Ridiculous. It is a proven fact that sports teams do nothing to enhance the tax base of any city. If they did, they would not need so many subsidies, tax breaks, or stadiums paid for by taxpayers outright. No city in its right mind should want these first class welfare queens to move in.

Didn’t the UN just recently declare access to a ‘home team’ as a basic human right?

...and then the Colts could move back to Baltimore and the Ravens (nee Browns) could move back to Cleveland. And then the Tennessee Titans (nee Houston Oilers) move to Houston and the Texans could move to Indianapolis. And finally, the the Cleveland ‘Browns II’ could move to Tennessee.

Or something...

Why even attach a team to a city. Just move ‘em around. “Home Team” is so 20th century.

Oh, "home team" should still matter, but get rid of this city-based concept. Let the franchise rights be purchased by corporations and give them the decisions (and the financial responsibility) as to where to locate the teams for their own profitability and interests.

Think of the instant rivalries: Coke vs. Pepsi, Bud vs. Miller (vs. Coors!), Ford vs. Chevy, and so on.

If we apply the U.S. congress’s typical accounting methods, it IS free.

After all, the $350 million comes from taxes, and to most politicians ‘paid for with taxes’ means the same thing as ‘free’. Free for THEM, at any rate — plus, they’ll be getting great seats to the games of their choice from SOME donor or another.....

I can already hear how future game-day family disputes will sound:

"I am an AIG Creative Accounts fan -- just like my father before him, and HIS father before him. I MARRIED an AIG Craetive Accountants fan who comes from a long line of AIG Creative Accountants fans. Our entire FAMILY are AIG Creative Accountants fans!!!

...and NO son of MINE is going to root for those rotten, no good, loathsome Goldman-Sachs Swindlers as long as he lives under MY roof!!!"

“Minnesota, San Diego, Oakland, St. Louis and Jacksonville.
Three of those teams have already escaped from LA once.”

I know Oakland and St. Louis have. Which other one?

The Chargers started as the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFL days.
