(Reuters) - An Apple Inc (AAPL.O) store employee has started a union in a rare move at a company known for its near-fanatical following and cutting-edge mystique.

Cory Moll, a part-time employee at an Apple store in San Francisco, is working to form a union to fight for better wages and benefits and to address what he says are unfair practices in the company's glass-and-steel retail showrooms.

I haven't been able to afford an Apple computer; do you think it'll become less expensive under union representation?

Look at the auto workers union in the '70's, where the UAW's slick negotiators caused the average American car to almost triple in price.

This isn't an anti-union rant, just sayin...

If Apple doesn't nip it NOW, Apple will be found in the history books only.

No company can survive these days with blood sucking leeches dragging them down.

So remember, the next time the salesperson says some about that Mac for PC, he or she is only a $14 per hour opinion giver.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with an anti-union rant.

as always, it will be fun to see a committed left winger like Jobs deal with the left wing unions. He is capitalist by day, and leftie by night, in terms of how Apple is run. They strategically have used oversees labor and manufacturing and non-union supplier/shippers, etc from one end of the supply chain to the other. I like Apple quite a bit and respect Jobs greatly for what he and his company have accomplished. This upcoming battle is intriguing to me.

It used to be that if someone didn’t like their job, they would quit and go find another one. If the person has any sense and marketable skills, he should be able to find a job even in this bad economy.

He should be using his energy to squeal about the high taxes he is paying.

I hear union thug leaders and democrat politicians give major financial reason for them however.

Living here in liberal SF, I agree with you. Your comments are an accurate reflection of the inevitable situation for Apple and other companies. The plight of retail employees trying to make a living in this city is real.

Apple store employees are pretty meaningless for Apple’s profits. Apple’s H1b visa engineers are not joining union any time soon.

“Simple ,Fire little Cory and anyone else who tries to organize.”

That is quite illegal and would net Apple a multi-million fine. But, Apple could inform workers that should they go union, they will lose ALL benefits and will fight every union proposal. Let them strike since you can almost never make up the losses incurred by a strike.

Or....move to Hecho en Mexico.
