The radio preacher who sparked an international media frenzy by predicting the end of the world last month has suffered a stroke.
Harold Camping was rushed to hospital from his Alameda, California home on Thursday night.
The 89-year-old has survived the stroke - but there are fears that the gravelly, famous voice he used to make his predictions to millions around the world will never be the same.

I predict he won’t be making a statement about it.
Found via Gateway Pundit, by the way. Along with Ace of Spades, the best blogs ever.
He was only off by a month.
Faking it to gain sympathy!
According to Camping , God choses... you.
The End time only applied to HIM.
Perhaps God has silenced him so he can’t cause more scandal to Christians and make them the targets of even more ridicule than usual?
Having worked with stroke survivors, I will attest that aphasia is one of the most common symptoms in the aftermath of a stroke.
However, the timing of this event, the circumstances, and the irony is not lost on me.
That is what one may expect to happen to a “preacher” whom lies in the face of the Almighty and just God.
Serves him right for pushing his farce.
While I think these false predictions do a huge disservice to how Christianity is viewed, in light of his stroke I won’t say anything bad about him.
Interestingly, my old man was all caught up in a prediction that the rapture (or whatever) was coming in 1988. He ended up dieing suddenly that year (and was ready!). It was a good reminder to me that the end of the world is going to happen to every single one of us. Perhaps this Camping fellow had a similar feeling as my old man.
So God decided to finally shut him up. Amen.
The world is coming to an end for him?
Not that I like to see anyone suffer...just sayin’.....
All I will say is that God doesn't like people messing with HIS Plan!!!
This guy is just like Benny Hinn.
Sadly people believe them.......
I seem to recall he was a solid preacher for years.
Some people bring Joy where ever they go....others when ever they go...
We don’t know when Jesus is coming again, and we also don’t know when we are going to die, so act accordingly, and don’t destroy people’s faith with false, goofy prophecies.
We should pray that this blasphemer seeks forgiveness before it is too late.
I used to listen to his show years ago. It’s sad to see him go off the rails as he did. And what a monumental waste of money (course it’s about what the government spends in two hours).
That’ll shut him up...
“The Lord works in mysterious ways.”
god bless him. praying for him and his family.
Well, I hope he recovers even if he did make wacky predictions.
there is only one thing I can say: LOL
On a serious note..do not presume a righteous God will fall in line with ur BS$
God chose to shut him up.
Uh, no...He chose to make this a$$hat to be squelched..better yet!
There goes the rain check he sent me....
I did ask God to make emphatically clear to Harold that The Lord was not blessed or pleased with his pontifications.
I trust The Lord to choose the best ways in such matters.
However, I think the Board of Directors still need to remove him from all duties relating to the ministry.
Yes. Come visit us in Doriath!
The Lord works in mysterious ways and sometimes He’s as clear as crystal!
Sadly I can not as I am bound to a promise to my father. Return the silmaril or else!
(Big night Tuesday-Extended Edition of FOTR on IMAX in select theatres-you going?)
Actually, his over all integrity is way above average
about his pride that his Biblical interpretations are better than everyone else’s
in his refusal to help out those who went bankrupt publicizing his nonsense.
He’s not the type to fake something for sympathy.
“SERVED US RIGHT”
no one would be left standing on the planet—including you.
I was incredibly serious when I prayed that The Lord make emphatically clear to him how The Lord felt about Camping’s nonsense pontifications.
I think we all have a need to know what we do not need to know!
2012 is just around the corner and were just beginning to see the light
at the end of the tunnel.....
Actually, he’s not just like Benny Hinn.
Very different personalities and very different blind spots and very different sorts of major sins.
Harold’s general integrity is way above Hinn’s, from what I know of Hinn.
Harold is greatly off, imho, on the 2 areas I mentioned above.
Yes, except for his trashing Pentecostal theology while taking lots of Pentecostals’ money . . .
his teaching on the basic Gospel and basic Christian doctrines was pretty solidly conventional.
When he wandered into fringe areas . . . he could be pretty radical—evidently more so as he aged.
Well, I guess He listened!
God will NOT be mocked! Ever!
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD.
May He correct Harold and draw him closer to Himself.
LUB LUV W
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
That includes this man who lied.
Though, knowing something of his integrity—he did not lie.
He actually BELIEVED that nonsense.
We are all warned about this if we REALLY study the Bible! :)
I saw that guy slap some fat woman's forehead, and she flopped around the floor doing the big chicken.
He probably has a taser up his sleeve, and these poor souls think their getting zapped from God.
Thanks for the insight, Quix.
I vaguely recall seeing Camping on a public TV channel some time ago. He seemed anti-establishment, and scorned by the apparent division that existed between him, some old associates, and the institution he once belonged. He had a persuasive personality.
INDEED. Well put.
He used to be pretty bright and think well on his feet. It was virtually impossible to get him to see any truth he did not label as truth, however.
I did manage to cause a befuddled look on his face at a fund raising banquet in San Diego once. I forget what I said—something that made it obvious he was contradicting himself, IIRC.
He has historically been super stubborn about his idiosyncratic beliefs. Sigh.
Thanks for your kind reply.
I’m wondering if this isn’t signaling the long predicted house cleaning God is scheduled to do at the upper levels of Christian leadership circles.
If so . . . this is barely a beginning. I believe that a shocking number are going to drop dead in prime time, on their own shows.
