Vladimir Lenin Was Part Jewish, Say Declassified KGB Files
Time ^ | June 14, 2011 | EMMANUEL GRYNSZPAN

his post is in partnership with Worldcrunch, a new global-news site that translates stories of note in foreign languages into English. The article below was originally published in Le Temps.

(MOSCOW) - A recently opened exhibition in Moscow's State Historical Museum is shedding some light on a long-guarded Russian secret: the origins of Soviet founding father Vladimir Lenin. Lenin's maternal grandfather, the exhibition revealed, was born Jewish.

This fascinating morsel of information, gleaned from declassified KGB files, is not a minor detail in a country where anti-Semitism was a recognized state doctrine for decades. Starting in the 1930s, the Soviet regime - spurred on by its leader Joseph Stalin - launched a violent discriminatory campaign against Jewish citizens. (See the top 25 political icons: Lenin)

Born in 1870, Lenin identified himself simply as Russian. His official biography mentions only his Russian, German and Swedish origins. But one of the exhibition's priceless pieces adds a key new element to the official narrative.

In a letter to Stalin in 1932 - six years after Lenin's death - Anna Ulyanova, Lenin's older sister, wrote that their maternal grandfather "came from a poor Jewish family and was, according to his baptismal certificate, the son of Moses Blank." Blank was born in Zhitomir, Ukraine. In her letter, Ulyanova said her brother "had always thought highly of Jews." She also urged Stalin to reveal Lenin's Jewish background, concluding that "it would be wrong to hide it from the masses."

Stalin, however, ordered Ulyanova to keep Lenin's Jewish roots under wraps. A few years later, Stalin began to purge Jews from among the leaders of the revolution. Prior to his death in 1953, furthermore, he was preparing to send the whole Jewish population living in the Soviet Union to concentration camps in Siberia.

So was Hitler....

Funny how the people who end up killing the most amounts of Jews in history seem to have some Jewish blood in them and they end up growing up to resent the Jewish blood in them which manifests itself as destructive behavior towards those people who comprise a part of their DNA.

The same could be applied towards Obama, he is half white and by his behavior he seems to LOATHE the white middle class American.

A maternal grandFATHER makes no one Jewish.

Dr. Blank? Not exactly new news. It wasn’t admitted by the CPSU. They held out the possibility that Blank was a German, as his wife was, but their answer was always at least a little suspect. Lenin’s Kalmyk or Tatar ancestry is something that hasn’t been explored as much.

Didn’t KGB files expose John Demjanuk serving as a Nazi guard working at Treblinka, Sobibor, and Auschwitz all at the same under Pat Buchanans Uncle?

When did that start? I could google it, but I always think of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, not Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel. Just wondering, especially for a patriarchal society. Kind of balances out the power. :)

Largely irrelevant, since a maternal grandfather would mean nothing. Other than to the Reich, who would have executed him. And perhaps Stalin. And others who buy into those racial policies.

So was Hitler....

Possible, but unlikely.

It is not known who his paternal grandfather was. But prior to the invention of DNA testing it wasn't possible to conclusively prove paternity in any case.

“When did that start?”

With Abram and Sarah. They BOTH converted, as did all the notable originally non-Jewish wives.

Here is it for those who want the Torah:

In Deuteronomy 7:1-5, in expressing the prohibition against intermarriage, G-d says “he [i.e., the non-Jewish male spouse] will cause your child to turn away from Me and they will worship the gods of others.” No such concern is expressed about the child of a non-Jewish female spouse. From this, we infer that the child of a non-Jewish male spouse is Jewish (and can therefore be turned away from Judaism), but the child of a non-Jewish female spouse is not Jewish (and therefore turning away is not an issue).

Leviticus 24:10 speaks of the son of an Israelite woman and an Egyptian man as being “among the community of Israel” (i.e., a Jew).

On the other hand, in Ezra 10:2-3, the Jews returning to Israel vowed to put aside their non-Jewish wives and the children born to those wives. They could not have put aside those children if those children were Jews.

Now, what about King David: was he a Jew, given that one of his female ancestors, Ruth, was not a Jew? This conclusion is based on two faulty premises: first of all, Ruth was a Jew, and even if she wasn’t, that would not affect David’s status as a Jew. Ruth converted to Judaism before marrying Boaz and bearing Obed. See Ruth 1:16, where Ruth states her intention to convert. After Ruth converted, she was a Jew, and all of her children born after the conversion were Jewish as well. But even if Ruth were not Jewish at the time Obed was born, that would not affect King David’s status as a Jew, because Ruth is an ancestor of David’s father, not of David’s mother, and David’s Jewish status is determined by his mother.

And 20% to 25% of the population of Spain. Other western European nations probably not being much different if anyone did the tests. Given a millenia of persecution in Europe, a Jew in your background wasn't something you talked about. Heck, in the US, in the absence of European antisemitism, some folk don't either. Barry Goldwater might have been proud of his heritage, but you don't hear John Kerry talking about Grandpa Kohn.

As to Adolph, I haven't a clue about his relatives dna, but the usual canard is that his grandma, a housekeeper, was raped by her employer, a Jew. That's it, she worked for a Jew so he must have had his way with her, that's what Jews do. Not much there. Which isn't to say Adolph couldn't have heard that story, though I think it arose only after he rose to prominence.

In a letter to Stalin in 1932 - six years after Lenin's death...

Lenin died in 1924. That's pretty easy to fact check.

What other mistakes are in this article?
