Were passengers who abandoned stalled DART train criminals? Or victims? (Freep the Poll!)
Dallas Morning News ^ | June 17, 2011 | Bruce Tomaso

Staff Writer Michael A. Lindenberger had a front-page story this morning about the harrowing ride that some DART passengers had after Thursday's parade for the Dallas Mavericks.

The northbound train, packed with people going home from the parade, got stuck for almost an hour in the tunnel near Cityplace.

No one ever told the passengers what was going on.

"People were hitting the little button to talk to the conductor," one passenger told WFAA-TV (Channel 8). "No information was coming back whatsoever. Nobody was talking to us." He added that when he tried to use an emergency phone to reach DART, "it was dead."

Eventually, some people got off and started walking up the tunnel to the Mockingbird Station less than a mile away.

They shouldn't have done that, according to Morgan Lyons, spokesman for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. By getting off the train, those riders broke the law and endangered themselves and others, he said.

"We are thinking about their safety first," Lyons said.

Stupid poll. There’s no “try” to get off. You GET off before another train plows into the back of your train. You get off before people start having heat stroke in Texas’ upwards of 109 degree heat wave. You get off because it’s obvious no one at DART had two brain cells to rub together to fix the problem or come tell the passengers what to do.

I agree. What many people unfortunately learned from 9/11 is to trust your instincts for survival. How many people stayed in the Towers simply because 911 communicators told them to do so? If I couldn’t contact someone to tell me what was going on, I would have gotten off and started walking as well. IMHO

If they aren’t going to communicate with the riders, then whatever happens is 100% DARTs fault.

Buying a ticket on the DART train makes one a potential prisoner of government ineptitude? Really?

When asked for comment, Economic Czar Wesley Mouch replied, “Passengers should know better than to endanger their lives and the lives of others by making decisions for themselves and attempting to make unauthorized self-rescues. It’s best just to wait for government to send aid.”

If its anything like BART in California, it is “try to get off.”

The doors are remotely controlled.

(and since when is 109 deg hot?)

The passengers were coming from an event celebrating a victory.

Crying “Havoc!” should be a poll option.

Gibbering gubbermint officials like "Morgan Lyons" need to start watching their backs. The legitimacy of idiot bureaucrats in this country is just about exhausted.

Yet another reason to avoid mass transit.
That and terrorist attacks. And crime.

By getting off the train, those riders broke the law and endangered themselves and others.

1) Nanny state Democrat lawmakers create a law making it illegal to get off a disabled train in a tunnel? Stupid.

2) Government nannies, please explain how it is more dangerous to leave a disabled train rather than wait for government busy-bodies to come "help" when no one knows when that will be.

People can and should make decisions for themselves, not wait for some idiotic government know-nothing to eventually come along and tell them what to do.

I notice that DART didn’t eplain what the problem was or how long it took to get the train running.

How DARE mere cattle try to decide what is best for them! Your betters will let you know what to do when it's convenient.

If you are baking cookies, 109 degrees is too cold. If you are standing in a crowded light rail car, a-hole to belly button, in the dark, it's the threshold of hell.

Every time they pull one of these stunts, I'm just one more inch closer to approving the use of Zyclon B on anyone who ever voted Democrat, or even ran for office. There should be massive penalties for this kind of stupidity and greed.

Hey DART!
You’re supposed to be a transportation service.

If you can’t do your job, I am under NO OBLIGATION to subject myself to further incompetence.

DA doesn’t stand for Dallas Area.

I keep wondering when people are going to get a gut full of pinheads like this DART administrator lecturing to grown people like they are children. I also wonder when people are going to get a gut full and drag some pinhead government bureaucrat out in the street and beat the living crap out of them.
