Patti LaBelle Update: Beaten Cadet Sues Airport Worker Who Allegedly Squealed to West Point
Houston Press ^ | 6/23/11 | Craig Malisow

Posted on 06/23/2011 12:12:00 PM PDT by RabidBartender

The former West Point cadet who's suing singer Patti LaBelle's entourage for allegedly assaulting him at Bush Intercontinental Airport last March has added an airport operations worker to the list of defendants.

In an amended complaint filed earlier this week, Richard King accuses Houston Airport System employee Cahl Rasmussen of relaying false and defamatory information to King's West Point supervisors -- namely, that King instigated the confrontation that left him bloody and landed him in the hospital.

"[Rasmussen] was not a witness, but without compunction, passed on the aforesaid false report as if it was true," the complaint states. "In an act far outside the scope of any job description, Rasmussen initially e-mailed, then spoke on the telephone, to King's supervisors at West Point."

The complaint does not state if Rasmussen saw the video of the incident before allegedly contacting West Point.

King's lawyers told Hair Balls earlier this month that, based on this information, West Point suspended King. The Houston Chronicle reported earlier that West Point officials said they conducted a "thorough investigation" of the incident and took "appropriate action" by suspending King. West Point officials have not responded to our request to confirm that Rasmussen spoke with King's supervisors, and Rasmussen has not responded to requests for comment.

Rasmussen has been an airport operations coordinator since 2004, according to his Facebook page. (Under his "employers" section, he wrote "Work as little as possible. Remember I work for the government!!" -- classic, Rasmussen).

He lists his previous occupation as a police officer for the city of Aurora, Colorado, from 1985-2000.

LaBelle and her entourage have not filed a response.

Something appearst to be missing. Why would bodyguards ‘randomly’ attack someone - someone who was not in any apprarent danger or imminent threat? Why would someone, seeing an assaut - take the effort to file a ‘false’ report to West Point, then take the time to track down a cadet’s supervisor? Finally, why would West Point expell a student who claims to have been attacked?

Seems like a survailance video would certainly seem to answer a lot of questions.

Good. The same thing should happen to Presstitute operatives who pass along false rumors of their own creation as if they were true in order to trash Sarah Palin and other conservatives.

There actually is a video. You can’t tell everything from it, but supposedly he “wandered too close” to uppity LaBelle who shouted at her bodyguards to get the guy. He was talking on the cell phone when he was attacked.

West Point has said it was an honor code violation that led to the expulsion.

This means most likely that he was not expelled for the incident itself - but for lies about or relating to the incident.

Getting drunk and getting beaten up by body guards is not an honor code violation - but lying about it to West Point is.

There was a video link posted on this forum from one of the local television stations not too long ago detailing the incident. LaBelle's thugs begin beating up the young cadet after he failed to heed their orders to move a sufficient distance from the Queen's Limo.

As to Rasmussen, I can only speculate about his motives, but would probably venture it was either an attempt to curry favor with the Queen and the Queen's thugs by reporting what they told him to report or just a lazy-assed relaying of their version of events without bothering to actually check it out or get the other side of the story.

Sounds like something the cat spit out.

I think it is a newsblog for the Houston Press. I just wanted an update on the case and this was the first Google news story on my page. :)

Welcome to last month when this was discussed at length in threads that included a link to the video. Search and Google are your friends. Recent reports say that West Point has reviewed their actions in light of the video which clearly shows an unprovoked attack by the bodyguards on somebody merely standing in the arrivals pick-up area, waiting on a ride and talking on his cell phone.

The video is on youtube and while no audio, that is exactly what appears to be the situation. According to other reports, Ms LeBelle was not happy with how close the cadet was to her luggage and order her body guards to correct the situation. If you watch the video the cadet is jumped and shoved into a concrete pillar which he strikes with his head.

"Finally, why would West Point expell a student who claims to have been attacked?"

The service academies have "honor codes" or "honor concepts" in the case of the navy that forbid public drunkenness. I have read that the cadet was over the legal limit, which I have also read was confirmed by a BAC test when he received medical treatment at the hospital. Whether or not he did or did not start the donnybrook, the fact that he was publicly drunk (allegedly) would have been enough to expel him if command wanted to expel him.

Having said all that, it seem like the Academy overreacted, and possibly overreacted because of information provided by Rasmussen. Also, the other element(s) of this suit aren't necessarily dependent on the cadet's inebriated state. Drunk or not, you cannot assault someone, and you can't assault someone just because he may have said something provocative or even insulting.

The Cadet (now enlisted man), will be able to reapply for admission in 18-months and it's likely that application will be accepted irrespective of the outcome of this civil suit. Even his superiors at West Point have said on the record that he was an otherwise excellent cadet.

Is there any intelligent life actually investigating this?

I have no idea of what the "truth" is, but based on my experience I can absolutely make a safe wager that La Belle's "security staff" are not without interesting "rap" sheets, and that many ... BY NO MEANS ALL ... of these "Rock and Roll People" are absolute scum with interesting police records of their own and the drugs (prescription and otherwise) and booze don't help.

As far as the wad Rasmussen goes, I would like to know of his transition to from small-town flatfoot to airport hack goes.

Best of luck. Go Army!
