Skip to comments.LIVE THREAD: USA v. Mexico, CONCACAF Gold Cup, 9pm ET, Pasadena CA

A Mexico win would serve as convincing evidence that Mexico is once again the unquestioned leader in the region. It would also provide a confidence boost for a talented young team that could wind up ruling CONCACAF for the foreseeable future.
And a United States win? If the US team can knock off Mexicos Golden Boys, it would give the Americans their third Gold Cup title in four tournaments and continued bragging rights in a series they've dominated for the better part of a decade. It would also give the current US team a head start on Mexico as both teams transition into a new era, an era that should feature an even stronger and more competitive USA-Mexico rivalry.

Mexico is the home team.
Third World Kickball! YAY!
Hopefully the crowd doesn’t boo our national anthem this time (as it did the last time I saw these two teams play in So. Cal — L.A. Coliseum, late ‘90s.). Wouldn’t surprise me to see more Mexi flags than Old Glorys in the stands.
Same exact second. Alphabetically, houeto comes before humblegunner. My post should have been first.
Socker: Grown men in short pants running around and kicking one another in the shins while the crowd cheers for the Mexican shin-kickers.
Ties go to the coolest screen name. Humblegunner wins.

HG “swings” another way (cough)
I actually believe that the US is going to take this one. I’m rooting for them.
Appropriate for there to be a tie on a soccer thread.
Just checked the DTV guide — no listing for the match. Is this thing televised?
>Third World Kickball! YAY!
shouldn’t you be saying “fabulous”..
Suck up much? The question is, WHY???
Is it shown online?
Any post about `football’ must be immediately followed by the warning:
If America woke up with only two sports channels: ESPN dwarf-tossing or the FIFA world championship (yeehaa),
we’re going with the dwarves.
That was funny.
A matter of taste. If football, baseball and lying down on the runway at O’Hare on Saturday afternoon were my only choices, I’d wear sunscreen. Soccer and basketball on the other hand I find entertaining.
