Monaco: The Royal wedding that puts Kate's in the shade!
The Daily Mail ^ | June 28 2011 | Catherine Ostler

Posted on 06/28/2011 10:56:16 AM PDT by Cincinna

Good news for those who have been craving some more Royal Wedding glitter. There’s another one this weekend.

It’s the event many thought would never happen: the marriage of Prince Albert of Monaco, the 53-year-old bachelor head of state of the tiny but rich principality on the Cote D’Azur, and Charlene Wittstock, a South African Olympic swimmer 20 years his junior.

The Grimaldi family has ruled Monaco for more than 800 years, and has featured on the global glamour map ever since Hollywood arrived in the form of the last bride to marry into the family, Prince Albert’s mother Grace Kelly.

The state may be small, but the event will be extravagant. This being Monaco, a tax haven where you are practically imprisoned for understated dressing, chances are the guests’ jewellery and couture alone will make the Windsor effort look like the Middletons’ village fete.

Charlene will require a minimum of four fabulous designer outfits for this three-day affair, which kicks off on Thursday night with a stadium concert by those ageing rockers The Eagles and a cocktail party for select guests.  On Friday, there’s the civil ceremony at the Town Hall, with two more concerts that evening,

On Saturday afternoon, it’s the religious ceremony, a Roman Catholic service at the 13th-century palace at which Charlene will wear Armani, followed by a white-tie dinner and ball. "snip" Charlene’s hen night, a couple of months ago in New York, was an encouraging sign for the tone of the future celebrations. She wore a leather corset and skintight trousers to go with the leather-and-lace theme

The leather corset part is disturbing ;•}, but so far Charlene has made few fashion faux pas.

Many are comparing her sunny good looks to Albert’s mom, Grace Kelly. IMO the resemblance is more cultivated (plastic surgery?) than genuine. . Like Princess Grace, she has fine features, wide eyes, and high cheekbones, and often sports similarly elegant chignons and well-cut frocks.

At 5ft 11in, with broad shoulders and an athletic figure, she is an impressive-looking creature, as seen in this month’s U.S. Vogue wearing a sleek black swimsuit and then a frothy ballgown.

No, I didn't think so.

Neither can compare to the Canadian royal wedding on South Park.

Yikes! That’s Princess Bea, Fergie’s daughter at
William & Kate’s wedding.
The French style is much more refined and understated. But you never know... It sure will be fun to see the outfits. I’ll post when I get the pictures.

But with her model looks, she can pull off wearing a leather corset. She doesn't just have a tall athletic figure, she's a former Olympic athlete.

Once again I see a lot of fluff and granduer for a couple who long time have already conducted themselves as more than a couple. Much in their life is about appearances, equally so those who they will rule over...but it is their culture and traditions.

Some of his history, children out of wed-lock, the age difference etc. is pretty great but then some gals like to marry father figures especially when they bring a title and wealth with them.

I understand she has not really had a career since her swimming years years ago, but seems to have simply waited around for the Prince to make up his mind... until Armani picked her up as a fashion plate for his designs. Now it seems her place and contribution will be to bring fashion into the little country.

Ok...pretty enough for me to know about them..nothing really outside the norm for royality. I suspect this grand event will make the news and will be interesting to see the show as it moves along.

“and will be interesting to see the show as it moves along.”

Let's cut to the chase, shall we because we don't have royalty in this country. She appears to be quite unstable with very different looks and styles. To me her photos are repellent and scream “run!”. I say 18-24 months before the psycho celebrity meltdown. But that's impolite. So let's let them wed before such nasty commentary.

There is the great amount of interest in this wedding because Albert is half American. His mother was the great American actress and beauty, Grace Kelly of Philadelphia.
Albert was educated in the US, Amherst and Wharton, went to camp here, and has a huge American family here, the Kelly & Levine family.
Monaco has been pro-American, pro-business and pro-capitalist. None of the Euro-weenie socialism for them.
We all wish them the best.

BREAKING NEWS:

Just read in a European newspaper that the wedding is off.

Charlene is pissed because of the many out-of-wedlock children her fiance has fostered over the years.

Your vulgar language is not welcome here. We are not like Leftist DU HUFFPO or KOS. People watch FR just waiting for us to slip up.
FWIW your post is trash. Everyone knows about Albert’s past... Nothing new here.
While it is hypocrital with his Catholic faith, he is just human, and a sinner, like all of us.
He has done the right thing and acknowledged & supported his two children, and they are regular visitors to Monaco.

I visited Monte Carlo back in 1970. If I could live anywhere in Europe with sufficient funds to live the good life, it’d be in Monaco. Beautiful area.

Back in 1970 there were many beautiful places in the world — ever been in Landau or Burghausen when a beer cost 1 Mark and there were 3.75 Marks to the dollar?

Hell, that far back even Detroit was half-way liveable.

It’s trash. One of those nasty rumors started by journalists to sell papers.
Expect a retraction from l’Express, possibly a lawsuit.

L’Express has this on their website:
EDIT du 28/06/2010 à 16h10: Le Palais monégasque a formellement démenti l’affaire, qu’il qualifie d’”allégation mensongère”.

Translation: The Monaco Palace officially denies the incident, which it dezcribes as a lie, a false allegation.

You’re right! One of the most beautiful places on Earth.
There are areas near Monaco I find even more beautiful, like Roquebrune ot Cap Ferat. The magnificence of the mountains meeting the Mediterranean, and the tropical flora, the amazing climate! But when it comes to quality of life, zero crime, and a rich cultural life, Monaco has it’s charms.

At 53, he has little choice but to marry a much-younger woman if he wants heirs.

She seems healthy enough to accomplish that.

Never been to either of those places, but went to the Armed Forces Rec Center at Garmisch and Berchtesgaden several times in the 1970s. Beer was about that price, but had a bit more of a kick than what I was used to.

My late wife and I were stationed in the north of England and my parents came over from FL. We loaded up the old station wagon and did “the grand tour.” After Paris and Nice, we ended up in Monte Carlo for the night. I wanted to stay there forever. It was mid-September, the weather was outstanding and there weren’t too many tourists. It was almost like a Cary Grant-Audrey Hepburn movie set.

I agree. Grace Kelly was one of the world’s most beautiful women ever, and 100% American.
I learned from the A&E Biography ( available on YouTube) that Grace’s maternal grandparents were from Germany. Obviously, the Kelly side is all Irish ;•}
The A&E Biography is very well done, with great footage from her childhood & movie career, and interviews with her as Princess of Monaco.
It is in four parts. Part one is here, the other parts link from here:

Kate’s wedding was a perfection of classicism, tradition, and understatement paving the way for a revival of religious solemnity and personal dignity at weddings. No glitzy celebubash can top it.
