FALL RIVER (CBS) — There’s another strange twist after a woman’s body was found floating in a public pool in Fall River, possibly going unnoticed for days.

The mayor of Fall River says “that health inspectors from the City visited the pool on Monday and on Tuesday and inspected the facilities,” which was during the time that body was believed to be in the water.

Marie Joseph was at the pool on Sunday and hadn’t been seen since. It wasn’t until Tuesday night, when some kids broke into the Veteran’s Memorial swimming pool and found Joseph’s body floating in the pool.

The mayor said in a statement on Thursday that those city inspectors have been placed on administrative leave.

Investigators have said that, on Sunday, 36-year-old Joseph went down a slide with a 9-year-old boy and vanished.

“We’re not certain about anything other than the fact that we have a death and that this person was at the pool, and what took place with respect to the slide. Everything beyond that is absolutely under investigation,” said Samuel Sutter, the Bristol District Attorney.

The pool was open to the public Monday and Tuesday with lifeguards, none of whom noticed the body under 12 feet of water.

And out west an entire reservoir was drained because somebody took a leak in it.

Unbelievable. Missing from the story: Did anyone report her missing at the pool on Sunday or later? It does not sound like anyone was even looking for her.

Truly bizarre — the 9-year-old didn't say anything to anybody when this happened?

Absent many additional facts, it’s really hard to make any sense of this.

The city inspectors were just doing their job, the way city inspectors usually do.

It says they were put on administrative leave. Presumably with full pay. Probably their work days won’t be that different than they were before.

“The city inspectors were just doing their job, the way city inspectors usually do.”

The inspectors in the cities where I worked spent most of their time hiding out under bridges napping or socializing in coffee shops. Some went home to take naps. Once, one was caught in a city truck having sex with an admin. on company time. (They both kept their jobs.) Whenever it was suggested that they actually “do their jobs”, they cried to the unions, and management had to back off.

You see, that was the problem. They were having a heck of a time keeping the levels stable in the pool. I mean, that must really screw up the PH levels.
