Large industrial fans are being used to cool off more than 100 orphan dogs and cats at the Animal Welfare League after vandals destroyed the adoption center's main air conditioning units. After an event Thursday night, organizers noticed the center felt hot and found the AC units damaged on the roof. One unit was completely broken, the other torn apart. "The wires were cut and the copper piping and coils on the inside were stolen," said AWL manager, Diane Spryka. With the July heat, Spryka is scrambling keep the animals safe.

Buncha sociopaths!
PING this one over to Slings and Arrows and Joe-6Pack.
at least the junkies didn’t do this to an abortion mill - I mean a “women’s clinic.”
Truly this is animal cruelity.
What concerns me is if the animal welfare people actually have to euthanize the cats/dog/kittens/puppies rather than allow them to suffer under the high heat. I am sure it is not an easy task to find a hundred homes and very quickly. Sad story.
Methheads should be shot on sight.
Wasn’t vandals aka vandalism....it was theft.
Copper in AC units are the new low hanging fruit for thievery.....
Poor pups...
I have seen this type of thef going on, but this is really very bad.
Take it out of Jug Ears’ vacation money and replace IMMEDIATELY! This is obviously a by-product of Chicago politics!
One thing is certain, the effort would be to get the situation stabilized for the animals safety.
Foster, foster, foster....
I do that for my shelter. Push came to shove...in portable kennels I could take 10-15 animals in my family room or basement.
Then send some volunteers!
Correction, I have read about this type of thef, but this is really very bad.
It will most likely happen, that the shelter will end up having to foster these animals for their health and safety.
This is just horrible. Our two cats came from the Animal Welfare League. It’s a really nice shelter that takes all kinds of animals and does a ton of good work.
Might be worth a call to them to offer to foster.
“Foster, foster, foster...”
You are a very good person and I am sure the pets that you foster or have fostered appreciate your kindness.
