Casey Anthony Live Trial Thread: SENTENCING (7/07/11)
Free Republic | July 7, 2011 | truthkeeper

Today is the day she may walk free. Prepare yourselves.

Call me Pollyanna, but the Judge did give FingerBoy 6 days. Hopefully he has scoured the law so she can cool her heels a little longer.

Judge: Count 4 — Universal Studios — expend aw enforcement resources.

Count 5 — Left child at Sawgrass Apartments

Count 6 — Informed employees at US of Caylee’s disappearance

Count 7 — Rcd call from Caylee

4 separate distinct lies cause law enforcement to expend a great deal of manpower and resources from July through December.

4 Distinct separate lies. Jury spoke loud and clear on 4,5,6,7. Sentence to one 1 and $1000 fine on each all 4 counts consecutive, giving credit for time served.. figure this out with Baez. Will take 1 hour to sort out because of previous sentences.

Court finds re: double jeopardy—goes over each lie and effect on law enforcement in tracking down the facts;

Says as a result of those four DISTINCT and SEPARATE lies, law enforecement expended resources for Caylee Marie Anthony, uses her FULL name every time.

Jury spoke loud and clear on counts 4,5,6 & 7.

There being no legal cause to reconsider otherwise, sentences Casey for one year for EACH count, with time credited for time served. Will figure that out with attornies—one hour to sort out time previously served.

One year and $1000 per count to run concurrently. They will take into account time served.

“At least it would take a little of the profit out of her upcoming media cash cow.”

The fact that there is the possibility of a ‘media cash’ bonanza is disgusting and says a lot about the current state of the nation. There would be no media interest if there wasn’t an audience out there for it. There would be no profit for this if people didn’t tune in.

Not concurrently.

Consecutively. Four years in total—one year for each count of false statements to police.

I happen to agree with you.
I think she was probably guilty, but not beyond a reasonable doubt.
The constitutional restraints on government, and the burden it must meet to deprive a person if liberty is intentionally high.
In a world where government power seems nearly endless, it is comforting to know they can’t just lock us up and send us off to camps on a whim like is done in so many countries.
I think the right to trial by jury, right to counsel and confrontation preserve freedoms for us in ways that we have come to take for granted.
These principles are more important than any one case.
Ms. Anthony will get hers in the end. God is not bound by Double Jeapardy.

With gain time applied, up to 15%, she has to serve 3.4 years. She has already done almost 3 years. She does 90 days or so. Probably won’t even get to the state prison.

Right after the verdict was read I said, “watch, a juror will come out and say we believe she was guilty but the evidence just wasn’t there...”. I knew it would be said and I knew it would piss me off. Here’s the problem with that “excuse”.

When a juror begins a trial they are to have a presumption of innocence for the defendant. After the State finishes their case, a juror, as in this case, then concludes the person is guilty. Then the defense comes in and presents their case. After the defense is finished and closing arguments are completed, a juror (jury) still believes a person is guilty, the defense did not provide reasonable doubt at a level sufficient to acquit the defendant.

Hearing jurors say we know a defendant is guilty then setting them free is nothing but a cop-out enlisted in hopes if gaining some sort of sympathy for refusing to do their job. It may help them sleep at night but, in cases like this one, the public will sit up at night wondering when and if this “guilty but acquitted” defendant will murder again.

Very articulate response!

“God is not bound by Double Jeapardy”.

If I am ever (God forbid) unjustly charged, I want ALL the protections...I do not trust the government, nor do I trust mob rule highlighted by our illustrious, hysterical media.

I rather trust a jury of citizens rather than a “professional jury” as some suggest..we already have a professional jury with Obama Care.
