Patrick Kennedy wedding planned for this weekend (SC judge Breyer to officiate)
Boston Herald ^ | 7/11/11 | Boston Herald

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy and his fiancee plan to be married this week at a private wedding ceremony at the Kennedy family’s Cape Cod compound.

The 43-year-old Kennedy will wed New Jersey school teacher Amy Petitgout on Friday at what Kennedy’s spokeswoman says will be a small, intimate event.

Kennedy is the son of the late Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy. He represented Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District as a Democrat for 16 years. Since leaving Congress in January Kennedy has been named a visiting fellow at Brown University and has campaigned to improve brain research.

The wedding, which will be closed to the press, is scheduled for the Kennedy compound in Hyannis, Mass. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is set to officiate.

He had to retire due to ill health: the voters got sick of him (even the voters of RI who had re-elected him numerous times...recent events and the general atmosphere showed Patches it was time to hang it up and forget about the 2:30 am Ambien-inspired trips to the Capitol to vote)

If you can’t get married in the Church, I guess a USSC Justice will have to do

Maybe this lady will straighten him out and they will both be happy ...

Do any of the Kennedy’s ever get a real job and work. Here we have Patch’s who sucked on the Govt. teat for 16 years most of that time under the influence of one drug or another and they make him a fellow at Brown University.

Money won’t buy happiness I guess, but it can sure make you think you are happy.

He’s probably in “the program” at this point...will he be tempted if there is an open bar though?

I wonder if there’s a good view of the Vineyard from the compound (probably is). We all know about the situation his dad faced at a certain spot on the Vineyard. And a little over 10 yrs ago his cousin JFK Jr was en route to Rory Kennedy’s wedding at the compound (IIRC) and the plane crashed killing JFK Jr, his wife, and sister in law. Plane crashed off the Vineyard.

“The Vineyard triangle”?
And while I’m at it, Martha’s VINEYARD is an ironic name
for that island given the booze connections to the Kennedy Crime Family.

For those who don’t know, the nickname he has came from Clarence Carter’s 1970 pop/soul hit Patches, about a young boy who has to become the man of the family when his dad dies, and has to work hard (ironic) during tough times. “Every day I had to work the fields/ Cause that’s the only way we got our meals...(the dad said) Patches I’m depending on you son, to pull the family through, my son it’s all left up to you.”
(Howie Carr pictured it as Ted K saying the next generation of Kennedys, like Patches, had to carry on the family tradition. Of substance abuse, maybe)

my parody lyrics
My father was a drunk old man
I could see him with the Chivas in his hand
He put a blonde in the pond
Didn’t think he did anything wrong
Didn’t spend any time in jail
Got re-elected without fail

Oh life’s not easy for a Kennedy
The pills and the booze and the broads you see
One night daddy took me to his dyin’ bed
Poured himself a Chivas and in tears he said
He said Patches I’m depending on you son
To pull the family through
My son it’s all left up to you

Meanwhile his birth mother, Joan Bennett Kennedy, was a lovely young lady who was no doubt driven to drink by her marriage to The Swimmer and she had some recent embarrassing incidents.
Wikipedia entry on Joan Bennett Kennedy:

>>Her later years have been shaped by chronic alcoholism, which had appeared during her marriage. It escalated with sporadic, uneven sobriety, repeated drunk-driving arrests, court-ordered rehabilitation, and a return to drinking. This ultimately led to kidney damage, with the possibility of dialysis and protracted complications from increasingly strict legal guardianship.
In 2005, she was hospitalized with a concussion and a broken shoulder after being found lying in a Boston street near her home.

In July 2004, her son Edward had been appointed her legal guardian; in 2005 her children were granted temporary guardianship

Ted Kennedy’s son, he is considered the runt of the litter. On the night (Holy Saturday/Easter Night) that his cousin Willie Kennedy Smith, MD. was accused of raping a woman in Palm Beach at the family compound, Ted was shooting Long Island ice teas with his young son Patches, the traditional Kennedy family Easter libation.

I saw him accept some kind of award at McCoy Stadium (Pawtucket Red Sox) a few years ago and throw out the first pitch. His persona is that of a guy who could not manage the night shift at a Cumberland Farms (New England equivalent of 7-11.)

Yes indeed. By the way someone on the Herald’s comments to the article mentioned it’s the anniversary weekend of Chappaquiddick! Let’s see, Aug 16-17 is this wknd, and I think Chappa. was on Aug 18th...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chappaquiddick_incident

>>On July 18, 1969, Ted Kennedy gave a a party on Chappaquiddick, a small island connected via ferry to the town of Edgartown on the nearby larger island of Martha’s Vineyard...Kennedy left the party at “approximately 11:15 p.m.” He said that when he announced that he was about to leave, Kopechne told him “that she was desirous of leaving, if I would be kind enough to drop her back at her hotel.” Kennedy then requested the keys to his mother’s car from his chauffeur, Crimmins (etc)

1994, the 25th anniversary. At one point they had Howie’s interview with the diver posted on howiecarr.com; I grabbed it and some pics and made a youtube vid out of it. At that time Howie was on WHDH AM 850 (I think a month later
WEEI “moved” from 590 to 850, and Rush and Howie then wound up on WRKO 680. You will hear the intro from announcer Jim Cutler—often heard on ESPN, etc.—”on WHDH”...)

I think the grandkids have pretty much exhausted Grandpa Joe’s treasure horde. The Kennedys want the Hyannis Compound to become an “National Historical Site” and be aquired by the Federal Government. Basically, they want to sell the place and hope they can get a premium with a politically connected sale to the government.

True story told by my Dad, who is now in a rest home at the age of 90: Some years ago, when my Dad still drove, he and my stepmother were out for a drive near Hyannisport and a car pulled up and they asked where the Kennedy compound was. My dad agreed to guide them there (it wasn’t far). A blind man got out and was led to the fence by others. He put one hand on the fence, as if he was touching something special, magical. He smiled and said, “OK, let’s go.”

That’s what the Kennedys mean to some people.

I have family members who worshiped the ground teddy walked on - they would vote for him no matter what - there was no reasoning with them - even tho ted was a murderer didn’t matter - he was “their ted” and he got their vote - they even watched the funeral with tears streaming down their faces - watched all the specials that followed with tears in their eyes - they spoke of him like he was a family member - I shudder at the thought.

Got bored this weekend, really bored, so I decided to watch the History Channel's bought and buried “The Kennedys” an 8 part docudrama on Netflix. I could only get through part 6 but I would say that it was definitely not a butt-kisser and I can see why the Kennedy clan put so much pressure on the History Channel to walk away from it. Old man Joe was especially shown to be one SOB(played wonderfully by Tom Wilkinson)but everyone got shot down at one time or other within the episodes I watched.JFK was portrayed as skirt chaser and Bobby was the family's junk yard dog protector. They spent more time on JFK's love life than how he reneged on the Bay of Pigs invasion and almost screwed the pooch during the Cuban missile crisis.

Heard on the Hill: Kennedy’s Vodka-Fueled Bar Trip

By Emily Heil and Elizabeth Brotherton
Roll Call Staff
April 27, 2010, Midnight

>>>Rep. Patrick Kennedy was spotted doing vodka shots last week at a Capitol Hill bar just hours after he spoke about his history of substance abuse at a charity event.

>>An HOH tipster and a pal were sitting at the bar at the Capitol Lounge around 11 p.m. on Tuesday when the Rhode Island Democrat walked in and took a seat between the pair. The tipster’s friend asked the Congressman what he was drinking, and when Kennedy replied vodka, the group ordered vodka shots, the tipster tells us.

>>After slamming down the first round, another was ordered, then a third. Our tipster and his friend stopped doing shots, but Kennedy drank three more until the bartender cut him off, at least from obtaining any more shots, our tipster says.

>>Our tipster adds Kennedy was in a lively mood, joking with others at the bar and even boasting about President Barack Obama, calling him “the best president ever.”

>>When our tipster countered: “Wait a second. What about your uncle?” — referring, of course, to President John F. Kennedy — the younger Kennedy jovially responded, “Oh yeah! Good one,” and slapped our tipster’s back, he says.
No word on when Kennedy left the lounge, as our tipster headed out before the Congressman.
Earlier in the night, Kennedy received an award for his work on mental health issues at the annual fundraising dinner for N Street Village, a local charity that helps low-income women battle homelessness and drug addiction.

>>Kennedy — who was introduced at the soiree by his one-time substance abuse sponsor, former Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-Minn.) — touched on his personal history in his acceptance speech. The Congressman recalled the late night in 2006 when he crashed his car into a Capitol Hill barricade and subsequently headed to rehab for a prescription drug addiction.
HOH’s multiple calls and e-mails to Kennedy’s office seeking comment were not returned by press time.
