Beard Gets Boy, 15, Banned From Class

A BOY of 15 has been banned from class because he has grown a beard.

Teachers put 6ft 2in Harrison Cerami in isolation when he refused to shave.

But mum Kerry, 41, claims razors would trouble her son’s acne and has taken him out of the school in protest.

She said: “There are children with earrings, nose rings, eyebrow piercings – yet Harry’s being singled out for having a beard.

“He’s hit puberty and is just a hairy lad who wants to have a nice, trimmed beard.

“I could understand the isolation punishment for something more serious, but to be put into a small room for a day is disgraceful.”

Mrs Cerami, of Blackburn, said Harrison will not go back to Ribblesdale High School unless it changes its rules.

Headteacher Simon Smith said: “Our policy for boys is they attend clean shaven.”

He added that Harrison could return to his classroom if he shaved his facial hair.

American kids can’t read, don’t know the classics, can’do basic arithmetic (much less algebra), are taught how to cheat to tests and put condoms on bananas and yet don’t know the 3 branches of US Government, much less the Bill of Rights.

And a kid who’s puberty got ahead of the curve is a problem?

It’s the UK. You need to ask if it’s okay if the Queen has a beard.

This is stupid. On many accounts not the least of which is that God gave us facial hair. DEAL WITH IT!!

I feel a school can set standards for cleanliness and maintenance of a beard but to say you can’t have one is stupid.

For some reason we Americans have this weird hate relationship with facial hair. Starting in the 20th century facial hair became a stigma. I just do not get it.

Facial hair (for a man) is no different than the hair that grows on his head. Properly trimmed and maintained, it causes on offense and is not a source of any hygeine problems.

But in the early 20th century we decided that our men should perpetually look like little boys. Maybe it was the homosexual lobby pushing it. But now, men cannot have hair (even neatly trimmed) anywhere.

You have men waxing their chests, their butts, their nether regions, all in the name of looking like a 12 year old boy.

Why??? What is wrong with a well trimmed beard. I sport a beard during the winter months. I keep mine well trimmed and short. What’s anyone’s beef with that?

Also, please do not tell me that the school has the right to do this. The school is not a private enterprise. It is a public institution. Making arbitrary rules that (in this case) go against nature, makes zero sense. Why not ban eyebrows next?

When beards are outlawed, only outlaws will have beards.

The boy is better off out of the socialized school system. We should root out socialized schooling and replace it with a capitalist school system.

There is no more reason to socialize the schooling industry than there is to socialize the healthcare industry.

One of my junior classmates had white hair, like an old guy. Something about a hair condition.

Either way, we used to him to go to the liquor stores and score some booze because he’s the one who looked the part of an old dude with white hair.

Would they insist Sikhs be clean-shaven? If not, they should most definitely STFU.

Good point! Sikhs can keep facial hair (more power to them!)

If so, then everyone else should be able to keep well maintained and clean facial hair

I mean, we are not talking about piercings or tattoos etc that are your choice.

If you are an average guy freaking hair grows on your face when you hit puberty. that is God’s plan!

Now, you can ask me to keep it neat and clean and so on. You can ask me to cover it while preparing food etc. But to ask me to shave it off because it offends you is ridiculous.

Again, differentiate between choices like tattoos and piercings and things that God designed

It is just like nails. You can certainly demand that I keep my nails trimmed and clean but if you suddenly insist I have my nails pulled out of their nail beds cause they offend you, you have another punch coming to your nose

His mother makes the very good point too about all the other unnatural changes from the traditional dress code etc. from the 1950’s. This boy’s basically normal and the article makes him out to be groomed. Even if the beard weren’t groomed, how is their policy on trendy things like dreadlocks? And I get the feeling it’s the healthy display of masculinity (that’s basically limited to those of Caucasian ancestry) that bothers them most, even if they’d never put it into words that way.

Clean shaven men don’t do a thing for me.

I like ‘em hairy and scary.

If I want “smooth silky skin” touching mine, I’ll turn queer and date women.

We had several mustached and/or bearded boys in my high school.

Nobody cared.

It is perplexing, isn’t it ? A classroom of 25 kids costs the public school system $300,000 to operate for 9 months out of the year. You would think a private school could pay every teacher $100,000 salary for a 12 month school year and still spend half as much overall. Think about it: with ten classrooms, you’d have $500,000/yr left over to pay for an administrator, janitor, nurse, and utilities and facilities lease. If public schools weren’t “free” nobody would choose them. The only public schools should be “reform” schools for the kids that were troublemakers in the private schools. Cut property taxes in half and let people pay for their own kids to go to private schools.

Yeah, I remember plenty of even 8th graders in my class sporting facial hair, including one with more than a Don Johnson level of daily stubble. Britain’s a bit different, but if different branches of various militaries can handle grooming regulations for facial hair, a post post-modern high school can too.

One of the things I thought was interesting was that the mother commented that shaving would aggravate her son’s acne. My husband had that problem as well, and the only way he could avoid severe acne was to grow a beard. The last day he ever shaved was our wedding day, and then he immediately began growing his beard, which he kept until the day he died. He always kept it groomed, kept his curly hair short as well, and he was a handsome man. His beard started early, also.

Shaving can cause ingrown hairs in certain ethnic groups, particularly black men.

I had a goatee when I met my wife. She told me that beards really turned her on, so I grew a full, but trimmed one. I didn't mind too much.

When I was in 8th grade, one of the guys came to the first day of school with a full beard. He was 13, but all the guys in his family had early facial hair. They had to change the dress code to make him shave. He came back the next day with big, pointy, Elvis type sideburns, and the principal freaked.
