New state law requires Gay/Lesbian history in textbooks

Public schools in California will be required to teach students about the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans starting Jan. 1 after Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday signed a controversial bill to add the topic to the social sciences curriculum.

Textbooks now must include information on the role of LGBT Americans, as well as Americans with disabilities, though California's budget crisis has delayed the purchasing of new books until at least 2015.

Still, opponents questioned the effect the bill would have and the need for explicit instruction for all students about a relatively small group.

The bill "does absolutely nothing to reduce bullying, improve the poor state of our education system, ensure students graduate or prepare them for global competitiveness," said Paulo Sibaja, legislative director of the Capitol Resource Institute, a socially conservative organization in Sacramento. "Instead it diverts precious classroom time away from science, math, reading and writing, and focuses on the agenda of a small group of people."

Thank God that this law only applies to public schools - my son is safe from this nonsense ...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

He is not safe.

The homo-bullies will try what the evolutionist have already done. They will rule that certain textbooks in high school are lacking in content and that California colleges can not recognize the course as be legitimate preparation for admission to their universities and colleges.

See how it is done?

The unreported big point of the story is that since CA requires it, and the textbook makers make textbooks according to what CA (and TX) require, that means those textbooks will also be ending up in the other 49 states whether you want this crap in them or not.

It is not surprising that a morally and monetarily bankrupt state would adopt the curriculum of sodom and gomorrah.

If a certain type of perversion has to be identified, let’s at least first make sure that the kids know what a homosexual is. That it’s two men who have sex together. How? You’ve got to tell them, that one is the pitcher and one is the catcher and tell them where the ball goes. Then when a homosexual of history is discussed, at least the children will know whether he was the dominant homosexual (pitcher) or the lady man homosexual (receiver). This isn’t meant to be a gross or rude posting, but let’s have full disclosure.

No, because while the law specifies that you are to teach about the "accomplishments" of gays, you cannot include any material that reflects badly on them. So, for example, while it would be okay to teach about Harvey Milk, it would be illegal to mention that John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc were gay or had gay tendencies.

Don't forget Leopold and Loeb

So true. There is no such thing as a morally “neutral” education. Some worldview will alway be imparted even if it is not explicit. Thirty years ago (and certainly 50 and 100 years ago) that godless worldview was only impicit.

Sadly, most parents have a strictly utilitarian view of education. They will willingly accept a week or so of celebrating gay “accomplishments” in history as a price for getting a free government education.

As an aside, we are always told by neoconservatives (and Republican politicans like George W. Bush) that Latinos are natural conservative because of their “traditional family values.” I will predict that we will not hear a peep of objection to the gay history requirement from Latinos (at least not in any public way). Latinos may be somewhat traditional in their moral views, but quite frankly they don’t care what the crazy gringos do with things like this as long as the free government goodies keep flowing their way.

As another aside, back in 1978 the so-called “Briggs Initiative” which would have banned gays from teaching in California public schools was put on the ballot. Plenty of conservatives (most notably Ronald Reagan) opposed it. The argument was that if a great math teacher happened to be a homosexual, why should he be fired, especially if he keeps his private life to himself. If a supporter of the initiative had said, “If this doesn’t pass, students will be forced to celebrate gays in history class,” he would have been dismissed as an extremist making a slippery slope arguement. Here we are 33 years later and the “bigot” who made such a statement turned out to be right and respectable coservatives who opposed it (Reagan included, sadly) turned out to be wrong.

Once the public is convinced to tolerate immorality, it will soon be coerced into accepting it, and then be forced to celebrate it.

I wouldn’t have called them Godless thirty yeas ago...we had Christian-based groups on campus and I found my way to a personal faith in Jesus through the Holy Spirit working through the relationships with other students I made. My parents were not Christians and never once in my life took me to Church. I think you presume much to say that all government schools were “godless”. However, I would agree that there were signs aplenty that God was being systematically denied his rightful place in our education system.

Utterly godless in their worldview and curriculum. Simply to cooperate in the classroom the student must think and reason godlessly.

I am certain that in the godless Soviet Union that people on a personal level had the opportunity to meet and speak with the occasional Christian. Because one might interact with a Christian in the jetsom and flotsam of human interaction did NOT make the old Soviet Union God-centered.

The same is true in the godless government schools. Although there may be personal interaction with the students, the government school, its curriculum, textbooks, assignment, and all classroom activities are godless in their worldview.

And....In my high school majority of the time we warned to **stop** socializing and pay attention to the ( godlessly oriented) teacher. There was really little time in the day for free socialization, except for the rush between classes ( less than five minutes) and a very short lunch break.

That's okay, I know a number of fine Christian colleges he can attend.
