CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
A man accused of driving his car the wrong way on Interstate 26 and killing a woman, faced a bond court judge Monday.
Charleston police charged 19-year-old Samuel McCauley with felony DUI and reckless homicide. A bond court judge issued McCauley a $52,324.50 bond for felony DUI and a $55,000 for reckless homicide.
Investigators say McCauley's car was going the wrong way on Interstate 26 early Sunday morning near downtown Charleston. The accident happened just after midnight on I-26 westbound just north of Coming Street near the Crosstown.
According to police, McCauley's Nissan Maxima crashed into a Honda Civic. Both drivers were transported to the Medical University of South Carolina for multiple injuries.
Police say the driver of the Civic, 72-year-old Eleanor Caperton, of Ladson, died as a result of her injuries at the hospital.
