Half of European men share King Tut's DNA

Up to 70 percent of British men and half of all Western European men are related to the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, geneticists in Switzerland said.

Scientists at Zurich-based DNA genealogy centre, iGENEA, reconstructed the DNA profile of the boy Pharaoh, who ascended the throne at the age of nine, his father Akhenaten and grandfather Amenhotep III, based on a film that was made for the Discovery Channel.

The results showed that King Tut belonged to a genetic profile group, known as haplogroup R1b1a2, to which more than 50 percent of all men in Western Europe belong, indicating that they share a common ancestor.

Among modern-day Egyptians this haplogroup contingent is below 1 percent, according to iGENEA.

Around 70 percent of Spanish and 60 percent of French men also belong to the genetic group of the Pharaoh who ruled Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.

So, the Queen of England is black?!

Wonder how the folks at Windsor Castle are handling this news.

“”King Tut (King Tut)
Now when he was a young man,
He never thought he’d see
People stand in line to see the boy king.

(King Tut) How’d you get so funky?
(funky Tut) Did you do the monkey?
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut).

(king Tut) Now, if I’d known
they’d line up just to see him,
I’d trade in all my money
And bought me a museum. (king Tut)

Buried with a donkey (funky Tut)
He’s my favorite honkey!
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut)

Dancin’ by the Nile, (Disco Tut)
The ladies love his style, (boss Tut)
Rockin’ for a mile (rockin’ Tut)
He ate a crocodile.

He gave his life for tourism.
Golden idol!
He’s an Egyptian
They’re sellin’ you.

Now, when I die,
now don’t think I’m a nut,
don’t want no fancy funeral,
Just one like ole king Tut. (king Tut)

He coulda won a Grammy,
Buried in his Jammies,
Born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia,
He was born in Arizona, got a condo made of stone-a,
King Tut!””

Amazingly enough about 70% of the time you can tell a person is British just by seeing their teeth.

Blind people don't seem to have a problem making that identification either.

If more than 50% of European men, but less than 1% of modern-day Egyptians, share the same ancestry ("genetic profile") as the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, then all those priceless "Egyptian antiquities" are in fact more the heritage and inheritance of Europeans than of today's Egyptians.

Does this mean we can expect the UN Commission for Antiquities to assert that Egypt should return all those treasures to Europeans - as they had (apparently) mistakenly asserted that Europe and America should return them to "Egyptians?"

This is strange. I am R1b1a2, and this is considered a general Celt haplogroup. R1 split about 18,500 years ago, so that would be the earliest commont ancestor.

I also understand that this haplogroup is rare in Egypt, which kind of tells me that the Pharoahs didn't generally genetically mingle with the commoners, and secondly they may have been outsiders when the ascended to power.

Interesting

He would still have to be bizzy at 9 to impregnate enough womman so half of Europe are descended from him.

"Share DNA" does not equal "prodigy of". In any event, he could have had one child and that line could have then been prolific.

Mathmatically, genetic mixing occurs faster and more broadly that you might imagine possible.

The notion that ancient Egyptians were black, is based on the bazaar notion that continents are racially homogeneous, which Eurasia certainly disproves. And that notion itself is a rather recent invention of African-American studies.

Adding to the confusion is the assumption that the modern peoples of a region are predominantly the descendants of the ancient peoples of the area. This is quite often completely wrong, such is the case in Greece and North Africa.

Wrong assumption. Modern Egyptians are immigrants to the region, who displaced and/or outnumbered the ancient Egyptians. The same thing is the case in Greece - and for the matter the United States.

No, his father, grandfather and great grandfather must have been awesome warriors. King Tut, just happens to be the famous son...

Rape, pillage and plunder was the order of the day.

Isn’t there some biblical verse, or tradition about Egypt never being ruled by an Egyptian following the Exodus?

Oh I’m sure a little Tut got a little action.

I know about the spread of DNA. Something like 10 percent of all Irish men are direct descendents of Naills.
And a high percentage of Ukranians have DNA from Attila the Hun.

History (including science, theology, sociology, medicine, archeology, etc.) is written by the winners.

The liberals, socialists, marxists, fascists, communists, and ethno-centrics are winning the war at present, and continually rewrite history to conform with their opinions, wants, desires, and world view rather than scientific fact.

Regarding your comment, I agree with you. My work has taken me to the Northern African nations of Libya, Algeria and Egypt. From what I have observed Northern Africa is not homogenous with respect to it being “Black”.

To elaborate on the math (which I'm sure you know but weren't pedantic enough to post), in the 3340 years since Tut got wrapped up for his museum career, with one generation per 20 years, you would expect 167 generations. Assuming two survivors from each generation, and no intermarriage, that gives 2^167 offspring or far more than the 2^33 people in the world. Intermarriage of descendents cuts that number, obviously, but it's no surprise that someone who lived so long ago would have either a huge number of relatives today or none at all. I'd guess even Steve Martin is on the list.

It's not inevitable, yet, but the same thing could happen in Europe and perhaps North America again within the next five generations.
