I strongly support getting rid of the anchor baby allowance, this would help the problem a lot I think. However...

I don’t think the state has any business telling the Church who they can and cannot offer the Sacraments to.

Mexican illegals account for many Catholics, which is what the church wants. I doubt if most were atheists the church would be so kind.

**And you Archbishop Gomez: encouraging people to live a life of sin is not the duty of a man who claims to preach the Gospel of Truth.**

You really do have Archbishop Gomez wrong here. He became a naturalized citizen by doing it the right way. Do you really know all the facts?

He is VERY conservative. You are pegging him wrongly.

Spin all you want, these are his own words:

“We have to insist that those who come to our country respect our laws,” the archbishop added. “If they are here illegally, they can’t expect to escape punishment. But I would suggest that intensive, long-term community service would be a far more constructive solution than deportation.”

He supported the failed 2007 immigration bill. He does not believe in upholding the laws on our books. He does not believe illegals should be deported.

In other words, he’s giving the Catholic Church a bad name.

"In other words, he’s giving the Catholic Church a bad name."

Not to the same degree that people like you give non-Catholic denominations a bad name.

While we are on the subject, have you heard of the the second greatest commandment and the Beatitudes?

Re: Post 43:

I wouldn't know the Archbishop Gomez from Adam. I go by what is printed in the excerpt of this article:

“Most of the men and women who are here illegally have traveled hundreds even thousands of miles. They have left everything behind, risked their safety and even their lives,” he said. “They did this, not for their own comfort or selfish needs. They did this to feed their loved ones. To be good mothers and fathers. To be loving sons and daughters.”

Is he not praising people who have entered this Country illegally? Is he not therefore encouraging people to sin: to lie and steal? How can he say that they didn't enter this country for selfish needs? That's exactly why they stole across the borders. They weren't starving. Maybe they didn't have as much as they'd like (join the club) - but they weren't starving.

You say that he is a naturalized citizen. Wonderful - but this article implies that he's encouraging people who choose to break the law. Do you agree with that? Is this article a lie? I don't have any great respect for the media - so if you tell me that they are outright lying about the Archbishop, and misquoting his comments - I'll accept that. But based on the posted excerpt - the Archbishop was encouraging sin - which would make him a friend of satan and not a friend of the Truth.

If you think this bad, check out this.Remember the saying about it being better to keep quiet and be thought a fool then speak and remove all doubt? Will someone please share or explain that to the employees of Casa de Maryland? (”Eight indicted on charges of selling fake documents,” Aug. 3).

In reference to the eight illegal immigrants caught selling fake immigration documents (as well as such things as Social Security cards), Kim Propeack, Casa’s policy director, observed “there’s a documented problem of operators of this kind targeting immigrant communities.”

Seems like there’s plenty of blame to go around. This involves illegal immigrants in possession of documents involving stolen identities or else fake or forged. Surely, Casa doesn’t believe that forgery and identity theft are not felonies — or that lying and cheating is not wrong? Or that immigrants aren’t obligated to follow any laws that get in their way?

Here’s another way to look at this: These forgers are not targeting immigrant communities but helping them. They are compassionate humanitarians just like Casa.

If, however, members of Casa think identity theft and forgery is bad even when illegal immigrants do it, is it their argument that these “poor, helpless victims” were forced against their will to purchase these fake documents? Did someone hold a gun to their heads?

“And you Archbishop Gomez: encouraging people to live a life of sin is not the duty of a man who claims to preach the Gospel of Truth.

If lives were in danger - it would be different.
This is a matter of people wanting more ‘stuff’.
Its certainly OK to want ‘stuff’ - but not at the expense of living a life of sin by lying and stealing (as one does when they falsely represent themselves as being legal residents of a Nation) to achieve it.”

You are putting words into the Archbishops mouth. This itself is SIN! Thanks.

Even Joseph had to ask permission from Pharaoh for his STARVING FAMILY to cross the border into Egypt-
OBEY THE LAW!
This archbishop is an outlaw!

Gen 47

1 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.” 2 He chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.

3 Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?”

“Your servants are shepherds,” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.” 4 They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants’ flocks have no pasture. So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.”

5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you, 6 and the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock.”

7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed[a] Pharaoh, 8 Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”

9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.” 10 Then Jacob blessed[b] Pharaoh and went out from his presence.

11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh directed. 12 Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.

RE: 53
You are putting words into the Archbishops mouth. This itself is SIN! Thanks.

Please, explain to me what the Archbishop is trying to say. The article provides this quote from the Archbishop:

“Most of the men and women who are here illegally have traveled hundreds even thousands of miles. They have left everything behind, risked their safety and even their lives,” he said. “They did this, not for their own comfort or selfish needs. They did this to feed their loved ones. To be good mothers and fathers. To be loving sons and daughters.”

My observation remains the same. This man who who claims to point people towards Christ (the "Truth"), is praising people who are openly, and unabashedly, living a life of sin. They are breaking known laws, and as such are living a life based on lies and theft (stealing identities and stealing from the American taxpayers).
This not showing love to their sons and daughters as the Archbishop claims.
This is teaching them to live a life of sin.
Better to be upright and poor, than to acquire material comforts at the cost of their integrity (Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?).

The Archbishop praises these people for these actions. So please elaborate - what words did I put into the Archbishop's mouth? Thanks.
