If it’s a Viking ship, there goes the Columbus Day parade!

Old ships were allowed to sit on the swamp and die, just rot away. That’s more than likely what this is, just a hulk that became more trouble to keep in repair than it was worth, dragged onto the shoreline and allowed to rot.

The cost of this great find is more than it is worth, cover the hole and get on with the construction.

This doesn't warrant its own topic.
Is this Captain Henry Morgan's ship hull? -- August 3, 2011 -- Archaeologists from Texas State University believe they have uncovered a ship found near the site where Welsh Admiral Sir Henry Morgan's ships wrecked in 1671. The infamous privateer -- widely known as Captain Morgan -- was on his way to Panama City with his men. The researchers say they might have found a section of the hull as well as cargo boxes and coral-covered chests. Trystan Young reports.

Is this Captain Henry Morgans ship hull?

The ship is from Mohammad’s second voyage and the site will be declared holy.
Expect a temple shortly.

Scientists from AKRF spent two days removing the newest piece, which measures roughly 6 feet long, 3 to 5 feet wide and approximately 1 foot tall.

For Pete's sake, you'd think it was a dinosaur bone encased in rock.

i have to agree with this assessment. From what I've read previously, NYC, and a number of other coastal cities, was built on the remnants of old ships/boats/barges and ferries that were used as foundation pieces. Basically left where they sank or dragged use as fill for buildings. San Francisco stands out as one of the prolific examples of this.
I doubt that this is anything that qualifies as "historic" other than the fact that it is "old."

The piece that was found last Friday belongs to the very front of the ship...

Is this anyplace close to the bow?

“Is this anyplace close to the bow?”

When I was in the Navy we referred to it as the pointy end of the boat.

Nautical jargon, you know.
