“This is much ado about nothing, IMO, by people looking hard to find fault. There are worse things to worry about!”

So, honest question. ARe you a fan of McCain? If not, why not?

“In the final analysis, Governor Perry says that the nation cannot have effective immigration policy until the border is secure. Today, the border is not secure and this is where we need to focus our resources.” “

Ok, How is that different than McCain? Didn’t he say exactly the same thing???

NO,
they just get the in state break state residents get.
Here in Florida folks come from all over the world for college as it is usually less expensive than to go to a school in say England, Japan, or New York. And life here usually is a bit nicer, specially in winter.
We charge folks who do not have residency in the state more to go to school here as do most states.
There has been a rash of states granting in state rates for illegals to attend in those states

As I recall, McCain was for a “comprehensive immigration policy,” (ie amnesty) before that idea was slapped down in the mid 2000’s. Afterward, the McCain said border security had to come ahead of any “comprehensive immigration” reform.

As far as I can remember, Perry never took a position in favor of “comprehensive immigration reform”. Perry clearly has taken steps to use state resources to strengthen the border, even though that is a federal responsibility. He has asked repeatedly for federal help.

As McCain is a part of the federal government with responsibility for border security, one would have expected McCain to have taken some action. I am not aware that he has.

So, if we’ve ALREADY been paying for their education, then THAT is the reason why we should continue??? What kind of freaky logic is that?

Perry is pro-latino. Not so bad as far as I am concerned. We need more immigration to absorb our excessive. We need to bring in quality immigrants who can help us out of our funk, as immigration has always done. US should not encourage poor uneducated latinos, but should attract the best and brightest from around the world.

Wait. Hasn’t TDPS said their policy is NOT to enforce immigration....not to even ASKE them their status?? Did that change when Perry sent them to the border?

That is NOT what I said!

I said after going to public schools free for years, they would at last be paying tuition!

I don't care that they don't pay out of state tuition if they meet the requirements for instate...they are finally paying something!

Comprehende?

An educated illegal is better than another roofer or yardman, IMO.

Also, there has been more said about instate tuition than there are illegals going to college in TX. 1% is not a lot!

Doesn't sound like instate tuition is a magnet for illegals. Can't say the same for Lone Star cards. There's a magnet!

Comprehensive reform is not necessarily amnesty.

(eyeroll)

Do you think Reagan was a lousy President because he DID grant amnesty to illegals?

When Reagan granted amnesty, there weren't 30 million illegals costing the US close to $100B per year while accounting for nearly 1/3 of the violent crime in America.

Here is a short primer on Perry's immigration policy: amnesty. Call me a single-issue voter if you want, but if amnesty passes the republican party is null and void... and with it, so is America.

You don’t need to be for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, if you have open borders.....and that’s what Perry said he would like to see happen.

But, yes, Perry does favor “comprehensive immigration reform”. I’ll try to find that link for you
